Sandra-P, I use my sashings as a point to make the math correct for my blocks so my sashings will be cut correctly. I prefer to put on my sashings as L shapes to the blocks instead of dealing with long unwieldy strings of fabric that can be stretched (or lost).

Once I have my blocks laid out, each of them will have a piece put on the bottom because each of them should have that. Depending on where they are on the layout, some will have a top too, but that is actually the bottom of the setting triangle so I don't deal with them this round.

Then I put on the piece that has the corner stone on it, again all on a consistent side -- whether it is an L or a 7 or what have you, two connecting sides. I add any extra sides that are needed

And then the blocks are assembled in the diagonal rows -- those long ones are long!!

I'm adding the flying geese blocks. I don't have them all sewn together yet. I'm still figuring out the layout of the geese. So far with the flying geese it's 78" square. Then I will add a 4.5" border around.

Hey everyone, I've read the directions a million times but can't figure out the 1 inch cornerstones. Do they go on the ends before you attach the skinny sash? And do they hang over like the other ones?

The way I will be constructing, there will be a solid band of sashing on what I call the bottom of my blocks, that will go on first. Then I put in the combination of sashing/corner as the other side of my L shape.

The cornerstones will be even in the quilt, but yes, there will be a whole one sticking out on the raw/pointy edges.

There is a picture on page 3 of Bonnie's instructions that show the little cobblestone sticking out along with the big ones to be trimmed.

Queenbarbiej--I wondered how the flying geese with two background colors would work, but now that I see your quilt, I understand! What a neat way to give a modern vibe to a traditional block!
