Pellon makes a product called "Flex Foam". Its a one sided or 2 sided fusible and pretty stable. I just used it to make a laptop bag and it worked pretty well. I've only used Soft and Stable once and it was a somewhat different use so I can't really give you a comparison. There's also a product called Bosal. I think if you do a search there was a thread on QB comparing Soft and Stable and Bosal.

I've heard that folks use a headline foam fabric that is meant to be the headliner in a vehicle but is essentially the same thing as non fusible soft and stable. I believe they get it in Joanns at the upholstery/specialty fabric area and its much cheaper... of course, I haven't been to a Joann's for a few years....

I have use this headliner in purses I make and a few zipper bags. Here is one I made. I basted my headliner to my pieces, but you may can spray baste like you do quilts. I haven't tried that, but I have been well pleased with the headliner. I got it at Joann's. It comes about 60" too and I get it when they have a % off coupon.
