I really like this pattern and would like to try and make it. I did see a tutorial on YouTube by Jenny Doan using a template for it, but it looked very intricate and time consuming. Is there a simpler way of making it? Also, what is this pattern called?

It is a twister tool. I have seen some really pretty quilts but have never made one myself

Yes a Twister tool. We bought one when we first started quilting and have never made the quilt. I think that one will go in a sale soon.

I have made a quilt and a wreath with the twister tool. Look up Poorhouse quilts or templets.

Is it twist and shout? If so I started one years ago and I was so screwed up and frustrated I gave up. My brain just doesn't "click" with those types of patterns. And of course I really love them! Bargello is another that boggles my brain. And they are my second favorite!

You can use the Twister tool to make it. I think the older version of this pattern was called Whirligig and the pieces were cut separately.

The "trick" on the Twister is to NOT get the design wall mixed up! Lay it out and work from there or you will spend too much time getting it sorted out again. (Guess how I know?) They are a lot of fun though--provided the pieces stay in order

I made one using the twister tool, and while it's fun, it is rather challenging to get it laid out correctly. I wasn't happy with the amount of waste, so am leaning towards doing it the old fashioned way.
