    Default Washing Minky - oops

I used minky for the backing of several baby blankets and never gave a thought as to how it needs to be washed. Has anyone had issues with washing it in warm water (I I don't want to un-quilt the blankets but I don't want the minky to stiffen either. Not sure this is practical for a baby quilt.

Here is what I found online about washing minky:
    1. Machine wash in COLD water. Putting heat on the blanket will melt the blanket's fibers together and your blanket will lose its softness.
    2. For best results, wash alone
    3. We recommend using regular liquid or powder detergent when washing. Pods are not recommended to use on your blankets.
    4. NO fabric softener. Minky Blanket fibers are very fine. If the blanket is washed with fabric softener, the water has a hard time pulling the softener from the blanket fibers. It will get trapped between the fibers and harden when it dries, leaving your blanket feeling crusty.
    5. Hang it to dry, then put it in the dryer on an AIR setting only to fluff it up. Again, there can't be any heat or it will melt the material

I’m not sure where you found your info online, but I use minky and treat it just like I do my other fabrics. I prewash everything except the batting, and once the quilt is complete, I wash it again in warm water and yes put it in the dryer until damp dry, then lay flat until completely dry.

I've not had trouble washing and drying (on low ) minky on the front/ and or back of the baby quilts I've made.

The fluffier, or more plush minky may ask you to Hang to Dry. What I do is make a Test Quilt sand-which and give it a Test Run through the wash and Dryer. So Far I've not had any trouble.

I wash everything in cold water using cold water tide. Dry in dryer on cool, most times.

No trouble so far. backings are always soft.

I did a search on line on how to wash Minky and turned up the instructions. I am doing to wash it and see how it does - I assume baby quilts get washed in warm water as a minimum.
