Default Cozy Quilt Pattern & Tube Ruler hiccups

I thought I'd ask here before I threw the whole thing in the street . . . .

I bought Cozy Quilt Designs "Nine Sisters" quilt pattern and the suggested Strip Tube Ruler when my 9" square Omnigrid (after watching the Missouri Quilt video) ruler gave me 5-1/2" oversized blocks.

All my tubes are ready - 4.5" wide - supposed to have 4.5" HST, yielding 5 blocks per tube. When I put the 4.5" line on the bottom seam, the tip of the ruler is 7/8" away from the top seam.

The same thing happens with the 2-1/2" tubes - is there supposed to be so much wasted fabric? The instruction images show otherwise.

And I'm supposed to make two of these for my twin grandgirls.

    What am I doing wrong?

Has someone else used this ruler with their desired accuracy?

Sorry for no photos. won't upload.

    TIA. Lynne

I've made several of Cozy Quilt patterns. I really like making them. I use the actual strip tube ruler and have never had a problem with the patterns. I haven't made the 9 Sisters pattern, but I have it. I recently made the TradeWinds pattern for two of my grand-daughters. Had no issues at all.

When I have extra pieces left of the strip tube, I take out the stitching and use them for other things.

On one of the patterns that MSQC makes, they made pillows out of the left over strip tube pieces, this was the Summer Squares pattern. Summer Squares See the end of the video.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the strip tube ruler that is talked about here and the Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers? I have the CPST's and might consider the pattern to use some of my 2 1/2 scrap strips.

The patterns do have directions for those not using her ruler, but using a traditional ruler. Not sure about the clearly slotted ruler, maybe someone has that ruler and her’s and can give you feedback.

I cut all my own strips, and blocks. They never seem to be accurate.

I love the Cozy Quilt patterns and have never had a problem with them. Donna Jordan (Jordan Fabrics) has a YouTube tutorial on making the Nine Sisters quilt that might help you. Here's the link:
