Default What am I doing wrong-On Point

What did I do wrong putting this On Point/Diagonal quilt together? According to chart found on Pinterest the Corner Triangles should be 13 1/2 square cut in half and Side Triangles (4) cut from 26 in square.
I think the corner squares need to be bigger ?
HELP would be much appreciated !

I would cut your corner triangles as big as the side and bottom triangles and trim off any extra. Cute blocks!

It depends on trimming. If you trim leaving 1/4 inch past the point of your diagonal block, your corner setting triangle should be ok. It looks like the side setting triangles are on the large size.

But if you want the corner and side setting triangles to form a bit of a border, then yes, your corner setting triangle is too small.

I really like this reference chart for corner and setting triangles. Remember that this chart refers to the FINISHED size of your block.

if your blocks are 17.5 inches square for the heart blocks (finished size), I think those measurements are correct? I can't tell if you have already stitched the rows, but I think not? remember the seam allowance will take up some of the fabric. Once you have the rest of the quilt stitch together, I think it will be easier to add the corners and check if they are the right size. I would remeasure the corner squares to make sure you did have the right size square.

THANK YOU! I went ahead and started putting the rows together and definitely like the larger side triangles - adds a nice border.
I am going to cut larger corner triangles out of craft paper and make sure everything 'fits' nicely before wasting more fabric...

These lovely hearts came by mail from a Valentine Block swap.. the blocks came from all over the USA ! I am donating it to a local charity for underprivileged teenagers graduating from high school this year, I am sure some young lady will give it a loving home.

Thanks again !

I'd have to look at whatever chart you referenced, but to me it looks like those corner triangles will be just fine once you put the rows together.

Thanks GingerK for the site on cutting triangles. I've saved it to my PC as well as printed it to add to my cutting instruction clipboard.

I think everything is fine. When it is all sewn up it will all fit into place.
