Welcome, FatGracie, from Minnesota, USA. I love to have new people from other countries join in and contribute from their perspectives. Your blocks are beautiful! Good luck with your venture into hand quilting. I have done a little and really enjoyed it, but age has made it a bit more difficult.

Hi Gracie! Your blocks are beautiful. You're off to a good start! What size are the blocks?

Hello and welcome from South Texas! I, too, love batiks. You're off to a great start.

Having done big stitch on batiks, I can attest to the fact it is more difficult to sew. I don't prewash my fabrics - gasp - and this might actually help a bit when hand quilting batiks. A woman in my area only uses batiks and she does lovely hand quilting and has won awards. So it is possible. What have you got to lose by trying? Good luck.

I used batiks in this little Kawandi tabletunner, and because there were multiple layers, I resorted to pulling the needle through with pliers at some points. I think if you do big stitch on the blocks and use a chenille needle (I am now using a #24) with Perle cotton, you should be just fine. Or if you plan to hand quilt with regular cotton thread, just make sure you use a sharp needle to match the weight of thread. Lovely blocks you posted.

Hello Julie,
Your blocks are gorgeous! I've never hand quilted, but I'd like to try someday. I loved hearing about your knitting. I just tried this year to teach myself to knit. I'm working on a runner for our piano, nothing fancy. I love wool too. I bet your work is lovely.
Blessings!!
