My sewing machine guy gave me one. He recommends using one for longarm needles....he says it's easier to see the position of the eye relative to the shaft. I haven't changed my needle yet so I can't say if I like it or not....yet

yep, I like them. Makes it easier to make sure the needle eye is positioned correctly as my long arm needle does not have a flat side. The end of the magnet just positions itself on the grove of the needle straight. No fiddling with trying to insert a pin into the eye and possibly nicking the eye of the needle causing the thread to fray.

There are some quilters that often will run their longarm needles at a slight angle, For them it may be helpful. I actually thread my needle before inserting it into the long arm and using the thread to determine if it is in straight.
