My neighbor is making lap quilts with rounded corners on the bottom, adding a kangaroo pocket farther up and then another pocket on top of that pocket to hold the cell phone. The pattern she has puts corners at the bottom for the feet. I've been looking for a pattern similar to her's as a friend in another town has a quilt group at her church and they've been making bags for walkers. They need a new project to start and I thought this wheelchair quilt would be the key as you can use all sorts of scraps, etc. My neighbor didn't want to copy the pattern for me, only gave me the measurements but I'm sure the gals at the church would like to have a pattern they can read off of. Anyone know where I might find a free pattern for this?

I did a quick google search and came up with this site. Scroll down to No. 9 for one with a 'toe pocket'. Free and for sale patterns are listed. I'm thinking your neighbour is using the Lovie pattern (scroll further down)

Is your neighbor selling these?
You might consider buying one and draft a pattern off it.
Sounds like she is incorporating some nice features .
is she doing something unique to keep the quilt from sliding off the lap.

quilted hug project
I made several of these. I call the one that stays in the car -restaurant wrap-for cold places.
I used and inverted one for my mom in her wheelchair because the tapered end does not
get caught by the wheels.

My neighbor is not selling them but making them for her family members as they're all up in their 60's and 70's. My friend in another town has a quilt group at her church and they make these for projects to give out from what I know.
Thank you all for your suggestions and I've downloaded the pattern from World of Sewing for her. My neighbor altered hers to rounded corners instead of corners to go under the feet. I gave her a bunch of pre-cut jelly rolls as I don't care for pre-cuts and she's been using them for the body of the quilt.

Thank you for the wonderful idea. I just ordered the "lovie pattern", but will also round the corners to be out of the way of the wheels. We have several senior centers here in town and I'm sure someone there can use one either for themselves or a loved one.

My quilt guild was talking about doing wheelchair quilts. Our community services chair is retiring from the job at the end of the year, so the project has been put on the shelf for the remainder of this year.
I made the one from Lovie Lap Quilts as a prototype. (it's also for sale on etsy) It's pretty "fiddly", but it seems like the most thought out pattern (that curved pocket was a bear to turn and press). Also, I'm not sure of how that small edge will hold up to the commercial laundry that nursing homes use. Most other quilters are more experienced quilters than me, but it took quite a bit of time for me to make. I would definitely make it for my friend, grandmother, etc., but I'm not sure about making it again and again for donation.
It also is a "cut as you go" pattern, which I don't like. I like cutting all the pieces at once. You can tell it's not a pattern designed by a professional quilt designer, as it's sometimes hard to follow.
The inside of the pockets are flannel, so hands can stay warm. The extra pocket will hold a phone, kleenex, etc. Of course, the back is flannel, to keep it from sliding off (you cannot tie the quilt to the wheelchair in a nursing home, as it's against the rules to restrain someone). Also, I don't think it's long enough for a tall woman or man, but I have not yet tried it on someone in a wheelchair (I just put it in my lap while sitting in a chair, and I'm only 5'1". It just reached the top of my shoes.).
Well, I can't find where I put the photo, so will post it if I can find it.

I took the photo in artificial light, so the part that looks black is really dark blue.

I found this pattern this week. I’m going to make a few and see if the local nursings are interested in having some. I don’t have any fleece so am making them with my thinner batting and flannel backing just like any quilt. Flannel pockets.
