Grats on the grand!
I have saved starting this project until today. My sewing group is a work group, 4 hours. Due to my eyesight, two of the ladies are being kind enough to give me a ride. I can almost see well enough to do this! When/if I can drive, I will probably bring my machine and sew but as a guest I like to travel light. I have packed things like tape to help me place my ruler. I mark the line on the ruler with tape so I can (a) see it, and (b) be consistent.
I am of the "cut large and trim down" school of thought, which is radically different than the very precise me that started quilting. We each develop our own styles of this and rarely mention how/what we do. For Flying Geese, I use the big goose as the constant and cut it according to directions. The sides I cut slightly large, so will be adding half an inch to the stated size of the square, not each triangle. While I can do them precisely, I'd rather move/sew a bit quicker and use that time to trim to perfection (or my approximation).
Last time I didn't pay attention to what side to put on first, about 2/3rds of my pieces were the "wrong" way. It did make a slight sewing adjustment to work out ok, but would have been quicker and easier if I had followed directions.

Thanks for all the good wishes!
This mystery will not be the little princess’s baby quilt, but she will be gifted I’ve made for her!
Anyway, I’ve managed to complete the first clue. Wasn’t too bad at all. Hope the next clues don’t get too much harder!

I agree with Joe's mom - NZquilter, that is going to be a great variation I think. I just love seeing everyone's work; they all look perfect. I will be starting my first clue this weekend after all the company leaves and I can get things back in order. My mom used to say about all the kids/grandkids coming over holidays...."I love to see them come, but I also love to see them leave". I am joining that camp....after living alone for so long it is overwhelming and exhausting to see/hear all the activity. I'm definitely not 40 anymore and enjoy quiet times.

Enjoying the chatter
NZ -- I think your concept will be fascinating and will most likely work well but if nothing else -- will use up bits and pieces! My first BH project was Frolic where I had a thrift store bag of hand dyed fabrics. Like you I used values so would have dark purple, green, burgundy, blue, etc.... Having a consistent neutral will help the design flow.
I got a lot done at group yesterday. All my units are cut and ready for the first sewing. I'd like to get this clue done before the next clue on Friday, but I will probably save the trimming down to do at my next group. When I do take pictures, remember that I am going away from Bonnie's concept and am using "yellow" (more gold or butterscotch but yellow is short and easy) instead of Aqua (blue or green). Pushed myself with a couple of the colors, and already used up one bit of fabric
It was a good start, a couple of the yellow were too light and a couple of the neutrals too dark so I was able to refine the stack a bit.

It's been ages since I've been on this board but signed on to check out the BH mystery. Thank you to Ice Blossom for starting the thread. The last BH mystery I attempted was Frolic! and I still haven't finished it. But I decided I'd try again as I like these colours and actually had enough in my stash for a half-sized one. I usually use a single fabric per colour but this year am going all out scrappy. Now to cut out and begin sewing part 1 before 2 is published.
Pits! I can't remember how to post pics it's been so long. I'll be back to edit this post with fabric pics.
