I've printed off week 9 and still have week 8 to sew. DD wanted a Dino baby quilt for a friend so I've been working on that (and building a chicken coop) the last week. I also printed out the instructions for Cali & Co March 15th block. I've got today to sew, should be a good day!

I am trying not to get too far behind, I don’t want to end up with a UFO out of this challenge. I am not piecing the rows as we go, because I am using scraps and running out of fabrics as I use them up I will want to redistribute the blocks to even out the colors for better balance at the end. I finished block 17 from Week 9 today.
I did not tackle Week 9 block 16 or Week 6 block 10 today, was not in the mood to make templates. Instead I processed some scraps from this project (HSTs) and tucked them away and tidied my space a bit, which felt productive and rewarding but not too mentally taxing.

word of warning - the measure for the HST corner unit for block 15 is wrong. In the next week video she states the people had problems with the size so she added a template for it. I figured I'd have no problem so didn't print that template and check. The problem is the block shows 5 1/8 size, but that is not correct, it should measure 5 5/16 UF. Unfortunately I figured that out after I trimmed and sewed, but fortunately I always leave my edges long until I finish cut the blocks. So I can still get a 12.5" block, but my points don't line up where they should. Don't like that the points are off, so I'll probably trim this down to 12" and put it in the orphanage and make another.
The worst part about this, when I was trimming the rectangles, I used the measures for the pieces being sew to them (2 7/8 and 5 1/8) to trim them, and that just wasn't working out right so I kind of thought one of those measures were off - but I went with it anyway. Should have done the math - 12" less 2 3/8 is 9 5/8. 9 5/8 divided by two is 4 13/16. Add 1/2 seam allowance and it's 5 5/16.

EEK! All those measurements…glad I’m not doing that one 😜. Frustrating for you though!

I would have gotten away with it (back calculating and piecing) too, if it weren’t for those darn half rectangles. I definitely messed up on calculating and consistency piecing those (started with the same size pieces and made 4 different sizes of HR) and had to trim my corner units to match size, which shrank my whole block to 12” and lost proper alignment at the center stone.
I definitely need more practice with half rectangles and to wrap my head around them before I willy nilly reverse engineer them. 🤣

Reverse engineering is always fun. I love taking a picture of a quilt and working up the design. Often if I can find the original pattern being sold by the creator, I'll pay the money for it as they earned it. But often it either is no longer available, or was created by someone other than a designer that is offering them for sale. Most times I make modifications to suit me, and I'm never selling so it does not bother me to do this. If I didn't love doing it so much, I would not as it's a lot of work!
Here are my most recent blocks. I have not put the second group together yet. I decided to pull out what I think is the last UFO I inherited when my Mom passed away several years ago. None of my 5 sisters sew, so they were happy I was willing to take it. Mom had dementia and had given away a lot of her sewing stuff long before she got really bad, but there was a lot in totes upstairs that we found when cleaning out the house. I was able to finish three quilts that had labels for my sisters. I have another that I kept that notes indicated my Mom was making for her Mother. My Mom started quilting about 40 years ago. Did it for about 10 years and then switched over to crochet, so most of this hadn't seen the light of day for 30 years before I got it. I'm going to make it for my oldest sister who is expecting her first grandchild (a girl).

Cali & Co Mystery based Focus Fabric Fruit: I cut out 4 fruit focus fabric FQ. I've cut 2-3/4 y supporting colors. I've finished 2 of 35 blocks (twin), and have 11 more in process. I need to cut more of the strips to place around the blocks and I also need more 2-1/2" HST. Her blocks 2 & 3 take 16, and I only have 8-9 fabrics cut.
The Corey Yoder fabric lines that I have looked at are fairly small prints. My focus fruits are large, 1-1/4" maybe bigger. So, I cut eight 8-1/2" and four sets 4-1/2" for big 4p. This shows off the focus fruits. The other 23 blocks will be Corey's patchwork. According to the original schedule, there are 12 blocks, 1 each Jan-Dec. I figure I'll make two each until Dec, then the 23rd.

I have completed four 8" focus fabric blocks each in the dark & light print. I have completed four 4" 4p, 2 each dark & light print. I have completed two block #1. I have one each block 2 & 3 ready to add the outer corners & one each 3 & 4 trayed up & HSTs started.
I discovered with block one that I cannot use the dark focus fabric as squares or HST, they disappear into the black BG (on the right). See how much better the left block looks without it. I did use dark focus & black background sq in the middle of the 2nd block. I liked how that turned out. We'll see if I can implement that trick in any of Corey's coming blocks.

The April BOM from pumpkinpatchbc.com is posted, it is a cute lion. I want to choose fabrics BUT because I decided to do the April Merry Mayhem Mystery….. I have lots of homework to get done before this Sunday.

I completed 2 identical blocks from my Falling Leaves BOM kit.
I am falling behind on the Jesssica Dayon scrappy QAL but I have 2 days off this week for a 4 day weekend and am planning a catch up effort. I will have Blocks 10, 16, 18-21, plus the two that drop tomorrow to do.
