Never prewash (unless required for a swap). I already have too much to do!
Do my best to make seams/points match.
Remember that I do this for pleasure. It is not a paid job, I refuse to have anything judged (I'm not adding stress anywhere that I can help it).

I enter all the local quilt shows. Some are judged. I have surprised myself (and everyone else in my guild) by winning some ribbons. . The judges have never have been mean in their notes, usually things I knew weren't all that great when I entered the quilts. I don't enter to win, my family likes to see my quilts hanging especially my grands. They beam when they know it's mamaw's quilt they are looking at. I'll take that over a ribbon anytime.

I figured this out when I was making quilt as you go rag quilts. I made a frame around the quit using solid square blocks. Maybe I can explain it better. When I sew a row of blocks together I add a block as wide as I want the border to be but the same size as the block lengthwise. The first row will get a block added to the first block and last block as well as on the top. Each block on the top row will have a border block sewn to the top of the block. Reverse at the bottom row. Like adding another block to the row but it isn't a pieced block just solid fabric.

I have only one rule in quilting -- do what makes me happy.
I have lots of habits and tendencies, but they are not rules, they are just doing what makes me happy.
I am trying to develop another rule, which is, don't overdo it, because I invariably pay for it the next day or the next several days or weeks. But I keep breaking that rule, so I guess I can't call it a rule yet.

I never prewash unless the fabric is red or feels overly heavy with dye. Have learned to use only one 6"x24" ruler, and hide the other one so I don't accidently grab it. I've stopped buying a jillion different cutting templates, as so many of them do the same thing. Making a smaller version of a quilt pattern by making less blocks often works for Project Linus Quilts. Trying my best to use what I have without buying more (not always succeeding) unless it's backing. Quilt backings have got to be as pretty as the quilt top. Cutting my leftover scraps up after finishing a quilt top. When I have to cut numberous super large pieces like for The Pillowcase Challenge and Kennel Quilts I went to the hardware store and had plexiglass cut to the sizes needed making it so much easier to use than moving my 6x24 ruler four times.
I buy rotary blades whenever someone has a good sale on them....really dislike a dull blade.
Are these my rules or my quirks??

I change my rotary blade at first skip. It will only get worse so why put up with it. I keep a large supply of blades on hand. A sharp blade is a must for me. I can toss a blade in the trash as guiltless as tossing a tissue so why do I hang on to bent pins?

My #1 rule: if I don't like the project, be it one block sewn or many, I put it away to revisit at a later time. At the later time, sometimes I will like it and continue on with it, other times I will toss/donate/pass along to other quilters.
Life is too short to work on not liked projects.

That reminded me of the Convergence project that I was not impressive enough to finish-yet. So, I stuck it on my design wall. The colors are pretty-I am still waiting for inspiration for a finish. I guess I have a UFO after all.
