Confession is good for the soul, QuiltMom2, but we are allowed to buy what we need and don't have to use up what we do have. Otherwise I'm going to have some pretty awful combinations coming up! Go forth and sew, and feel good
As for me, I did get my background cut during sewing group. I will be long enough, but it will be rather narrow for a twin and need a border (I think there is a good one in stash). Each blade is 6" wide, so each chevron is 12". I have 4 sets of chevrons (48") plus 2.5" sashing for the outside and between rows for an additional 12.5" for 60" wide. I don't have my notes with me so I don't know the length off hand but will call it plenty long enough (I hope). And now I know how many greens/golds I will need -- an equal amount

I posted this quilt to the 2.5 Birthday Swap thread, but it was all from stash so I added it here too. The 2.5 " squares, batting, and thread were all in my stash. One of the members of a group that I make donation quilts with brought the piece I used for the backing to the give away table and I snatched it because it would be perfect for something and Ta-Da it was. In the stash and out of the stash in just a few weeks time.
This was a grab and stitch opportunity to create 4-patches and turn them into a top. The group wants quilts to be width of fabric wide and 55 to 60 inches long. So, there you go I did it and I can proudly say it is fabric out of my hands now.

At least you got sewing fabric. I went to the Senior Center one day and "rescued" the fabric that was going to the dumpster and get burned--CAN'T allow such a thing---anyhow I brought it home and it was upholstery fabric. Not making anything as yet from that.

Home from my Road to VA show and I was bad! But I’m still happy! I purchased 4 1/2 yards with no plans in my head. I just loved the fabric! I don’t usually buy kits but bought a kit for a small wall hanging, a larger throw and an embroidery kit that finishes 5”x 7”. The embroidery is already finished and I just need to find a frame. There were three of us gals together attending the show and we all live apart from each other. The large quilt (all the same fabrics and pattern) we will make together via internet. It keeps us connected and motivated. This quilt will certainly be finished before some of those older tops waiting in line to be finished. The show was great. But the best time was meeting up and spending four days with friends.

I really need to start working on my 2 1/2 scrap strips and squares, the tubs are overflowing. Thought that when I made "My Monster Quilt" two years ago that I had used so much of my scraps and was in decent shape. Nope! "Suffering Succotash" it's true, they really do multiple over night. Starting in the strips first and we'll see how far I get today.

Well, another delay in replying - amazing how "life" can get in the way sometimes, isn't it? There have been some fun stories of acquisition and use I've now caught up on, and both have a place here in the Moratorium thread. :-)
MaryKa - I also acquired some upholstery fabric a number of years ago and while some of it went back out quite quickly, I kept a couple of the sample books and am planning to use them to make a dog rug for the back seat of the car (for when the current one wears out). I know upholstery fabric isn't generally "washable" but when it's being used in such a utilitarian way, I'm not terribly fussed if it pills or wrinkles.
WMUTeach - that's a big colour purge! I am too much of a controller to be able to do your "blind pull" method but I do like working with a specific colour theme (might be one colour, might be more) to keep an overall "random" project a bit more coherent.
I believe I promised to share a mini-purge in one of my last posts so here it is. It's for our guild's BOM community quilt challenge - I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but a guildie sets the parameters for a block and then takes all of the donated blocks and turns them into finished projects for our community quilts program. She's amazing! The black is solid - I just took the picture on a wire shelf!

Gemm, I am not much of a "random stash pull" kind of quilter either. But when I can pull from one or two color ways, I can easily live with the results. Most of those don't stay with me but are passed on as donation quilt often to Project Linus.
I did my monthly count of finished quilts a few minutes ago and I used 15.5 yards of fabric this month. Yeah, I used more than that but my projects aren't done so will count them when I finish. Two quilts finished all from stash and progress on several long term projects that will be growing with time.
Keep stitching and diminishing your stash while increasing your joy of projects done and done!
