I salute you for trying to use fabric that you found for a great price. But, from what I hear from all of the women here, it isn't going to happen in such a way to make the fabric like you want it to.
Perhaps you could make a bag or something from the new fabric and look for something that is just right for your quilt.

I have off white carpet upstairs int he hallway and bedrooms and when one of my kitties decides to barf a hairball, I clean it up as best I can, then literally pour peroxide over the spot. I had to do this the other day and just took a look at it this morning and it's gone with no damage to the carpet. I also add it to my carpet shampoo machine when I go to clean the spots when I have enough to pull the machine out. My sister sprays it on whites that have gotten a few stains or that yellow stain under the armpit and it seems to do the trick. Of course you'd need a lot of perixode for how much fabric you're talking about.

Since the color seems to be well set in your fabric, I'd just save that for another project and buy something the works better with your pre-cuts.

Have you tried laying it out in the sun for a day, or two?

Thank you for your responses! I don’t think anything will lighten this fabric, I even soaked a piece in undiluted Clorox for 30 minutes and it didn’t change a bit. Oh well. I’ll go to plan B and use some of the light shades I have of the aged muslin and I found a few sites where I can buy more of the light shades. It’s an older fabric line so they don’t have all the lighter shades but there’s enough so that I can have a little variation. And I may try tea dying some to give a more vintage and varied look. I’m a Barbara Brackman fan and was very happy when I found one of her older lines at the estate sale.

It’s been so hot here that I haven’t been able to even look at my quilting or fabric. My sewing room is in a finished part of the attic. There’s no air-conditioning and with the south facing window it’s brutal up there when the weather is like this.

I also have a sewing room that is too hot in the summer to work in. I have to be half crazy to want something finished to work up there in the summer. I have thought about bringing it down to the dining room, but no, for so many reasons.
I am sure you will have fun with it when the weather begins to cool off. Have fun with it.
