Boom 34 Sign-ups now open through 8/8/25

Great block, Janice. Drunkard's path blocks are a PITA. I've heard big ones are not so much trouble... but we like little ones for Boom blocks. You did great.
We've had rain a bit each day, mostly all summer. It sure beats the 5 month drought we had two years ago, which killed so many of our huge pine trees. I'm thankful for the right amount of rain!
I'm still working on my PP project. Gosh, those things take so much time!
Gotta get serious now about finding my Boom fabric.

Despite sending PMs to a group of previous Boomers, signups have ground to a halt with the exception of a possible newbie to the group. Part of me is actually entertaining the idea that I jinxed this swap by naming it and “assuming” we’d have quick signups. You know what “assume” means! lol. Anyway, there’s still lots of time so I’m hoping more people sign on. Spread the word amongst your QB and quilting buddies if the opportunity arises.
In the meantime, I’m going to see if hubby will help me sandwich a top or two in the next few days. I need to work through my pile of UFOs.
Enjoy your evening.

Hi all. Please add me onto the roster for BOOM 34. Email sent. Despite my determination not to join another until I finish my other Boom quilts, I miss piecing and miss visiting. I need this BOOM! Thank you for launching it again, Janice.
Loving the fabrics thus far shown. Precious puppy and injured kitty pictures. May they stay healthy and happy. Terriman, yay Winnie the Pooh quilt! One lucky grandchild will be enjoying that precious gift!
We are between semesters at my University but there is an ongoing budgetary crisis. I am waiting to see what happens when the dust settles. Faculty and administration are squabbling over a million dollars needed to fund adjuncts. Administration doesn't want to give it to academic affairs because that would mean cutting other budgets in the pie. The mission of the university is to teach and do research, as is every other University's mission. Academics is less than half the budgetary pie. Something is wrong with that equation but I would say that because I'm one of the faculty trying to keep the programs alive for our students. My two sons and all the grandkids are gearing up for school right now. Lots of bootstrap lifting going on everywhere as everyone's budget continues to shrink. Lots of silver linings out there... money isn't everything and people are beginning to appreciate the things money can't buy. My husband is about to retire. That is great news for me because he may be able to go back and forth to New Orleans with me. I do hate living without him for chunks of time. If my University goes under, I may end up retired and then I can make my boom quilts. Silver linings everywhere!
Quilty hugs to all.

Ibex can’t even tell you how much I love being retired. We are galavanting around all the time, sometimes too much. When I found out my department was being sent to another state I was devastated. There were a lot of tears shed, the scary unknown was welcoming me to her lair. Instead of learning a new department I asked for a package. Best thing that ever happened to me, other than meeting hubby there. So go forward and embrace your future.
With it not raining or being sweltering hot my afternoon was spent pulling weeds and cutting out several 3 foot trees that were in the corner of the house that is barely accessible. Of course hubby had to chaperone with the trees so I didn’t fall off the wall. I did it, without any help. Mission accomplished.
Sewbiz I looked up Marshall’s and it is a 13 hour drive if I was to drive straight through. I need batting and the large size backings. If I told hubby I wanted to drive 13 hours to get a good price on batting I think he might oh heavens I can’t even imagine what he would say 😱

Ibex, I understand your frustration with university budgets and politics. Supposed to education students but not pay the adjunct faculty enough to stay off food and housing assistance. Full-time faculty are desperate to do their required research but their funding has disappeared and research and publishing are required to keep their positions. A vicious circle. If you are invited to retire, as painful as it may be, take the opportunity and run to what else makes you happy. We are the lucky ones. Those just now seeking work in universities or in research, which was considered a secure career, are now caught in a terrible trap of trained but unemployable.
On to some fun. I got to spend a large portion of my day and evening with my Zoom quilting buddies but face to face at the home of one of the Zoomers. I dug out a UFO from two years ago and dove in again. Remember Wendy Sheppard's Harrisonburg quilt for the Virginia Quilt Museum? Pat Sloan helped promote it and provided a sew-a-long to make it. Well I started 2.5 years ago, got the primary blocks finished and most of the setting 9-patches finished and about 2/3 of the diamond border done and put it away. Today, I made more diamonds and 9-patches and hope to begin assembling the blocks into rows tomorrow. On with the show, I say! On with the show!
Yay! it rained today and the temps are down to upper sixties tonight! Throw open the windows and let the breeze in!

Yay, Ibex is IN! Glad to have you back! Sorry to hear the problems at the school are not resolved yet. That's so unfair to you.
It's time for some Booming!
WMUT, that's a super cute quilt you are making. Be sure and show us the finish. Hope Zuzu is feeling much better.
Terri, I agree Marshall's is too long a drive for you. It would be much more pleasant, not to mention cheaper, having the rolls of batting shipped to you. Call them and ask for a salesman who will help you with arrangements.

Beautiful block Janice! I haven't made a drunkard's path, it looks quite difficult.
WMUTeach, I felt so bad for ZuZu, hope she is doing much better. Your quilt is gorgeous, so glad you are finishing it. It was too pretty to have put away and now someone will be able to enjoy it.
Ibex, so happy to see you return to the swap! Hope things go well at the university.
Guess that I am super weird, I miss the hot temperatures. This morning woke up to 60* and I am cold, even the cat went back to her bed! Supposed to warm up again next week
I still haven't decided on fabric, I've gone through my stash and nothing is calling me. I have a large scale print of Southwestern designs and thought maybe I should go out and buy chili pepper fabric, we'll see.
Cheese

Good morning! It’s almost cool outside. It won’t last but it proof the heat wave is breaking.
Ibex! Glad to have you back! I’ve got you down for one set. I hate to be in limbo, uncertain of what is going to happen. I hope the university situation is resolved soon so you can make plans one way or the other.
I bought a roll of batting online early this year. I got it almost 50 percent off and shipping was free. It’s very convenient having whatever size you need right at hand.
WMUTeach, are you using similar colors to the pic in your quilt? It’s really lovely.
Have a good day everyone!
