That's a cool dustpan, Iceblossom, and I can certainly see the benefits of the "teeth" to keep the detritus in place. I get a lot of corgi "glitter" and it's very floofy and tends to fly off the dustpan if you move too quickly as you try to carry it to the bin.

I've spent the last couple of days tackling some fabric mess - today was about restashing fabric pulls from about 3 or 4 recent projects. I'm about 80% of the way there but as I explained in another post in the Fabric Moratorium thread (Getting rid of "bits"), I'm learning my stash has actually outgrown the space I have for it, and I have a couple of baskets of fabric that just won't fit where it needs to go. /sigh Boxes are stacked, however, and the excess is mostly contained in categories, so I can say at least some progress has been made!

I went looking for a piece of batting larger enough for a 48” square wall hanging. After pulling out multiple pieces and measuring them, I fell down the batting organization rabbit hole! I pulled out each piece, measured, and tagged it with the measurements and then organized by size on the shelf. The shelf is labeled with the sizes in tat stack. I also sewed smaller pieces together to make pieces in more useable sizes. And I found a piece large enough for the top I went looking for. I feel so darned organized!

Oh, so glad your story ended well. I kept reading and did a mental finger cross that you had what was needed for your 48" wall hanging. The plus of all your investment in organization is the time you will save in the future. I am inspired to do something similar. I know what sizes I often use, so why not make a pile of pieced batting that will meet my frequently used sizes now? Why didn't I think of that before. A big old DUH!

Way to go, Lena - look at you getting your batting stash organized and giving others great ideas! I've been making Frankenbatting for my placemat projects and it does feel good to be able to use up those bits, especially with the price that batting is these days!

From time to time every year, I take a gander at the saved items on my computer, particularly quilt patterns. I likely have mentioned it before but from time to time I wander my bookmarked patterns and give them a hard look. Did I like the pattern or did I like the colors of the illustration? In reality, will I ever make that quilt? Is this a duplicate of a traditional pattern that I have saved under a different name? Is this pattern WAY beyond what I want to tackle? or more likely is the pattern WAY beyond my skill level. Lastly, if I started it, do I like it enough to really finish it. If the answer is no, then I delete it.

I did some of this yesterday and dumped about 1/4 of the bookmarked patterns. I really, truly would never make a quilt from that pattern. It felt good to declutter my pattern folder. I also found some gems that I forgot I have saved. On the list for next year unless something else jumps in line ahead of it. Tee-Hee-Hee.

I’m trying, slowly but surely, to get more organized. My fabric has resided in a couple of large tubs for years now, plus baskets and bags stuffed here and there. It’s so hard to get a handle on what I actually have that I went out and bought white backing fabric for a project (and due to a math snafu, wildly over-bought) when I already had not one but two pieces of white in my stash that would have worked. Doh! This is particularly frustrating because I’m trying to sew from stash/sew down my stash as much as possible.

A couple of years ago I got scraps organized by color into small boxes, but now I’m tackling yardage. This weekend I bought three small clear tubs and made a beginning of moving fabric from the garage this to my sewing room, and straightened the sewing room up a bit.

WMU, I do the same computer clean out in January usually. Always feels good and at least 1/2 of the bookmarked stuff goes away. I'm going to have to go to a much bigger screen soon which means my beloved lap top will go away. I'm guessing I'll save very little. Right now I probably have about 200 images in the quilt ideas folder, mostly because they are pretty I'll never make them at this point. I'll just keep on keeping on iwth my scrappies and selvedges.

This year while traveling I set my sand collection free, this fall I'm working on my souviner spoon collection. I've kept about 30 spoons and the one rack my dad made me which also hold the few china cups that were my grandmothers. That is 8 spoon racks gone, I'll list those on craiglist and see if anyone wants them for jewelry or whatever. The spoons I'm keeping aregoing into wind chimes. That whole area just feels SO clean.

I should probably do this too. I know I saved a while bunch of patterns in my Dropbox and I very rarely actually sew from a pattern. I usually just make arrangements of traditional blocks on graph paper.

In related news, I need to declutter my quilting books. I’ve got way too many and I just ordered two more today. Oops.😬

That sounds like great progress! It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes once things start finding a proper place. I can totally relate to buying fabric you already had — it happens to the best of us! Sorting by color and moving things into clear tubs sounds like a solid system. You’ll probably discover some “forgotten treasures” along the way too. Keep going — little steps like this really add up to a more inspiring sewing space. ✂️😊

Thanks for the encouragement. I found a Christmas fabric that somehow escaped the Christmas roundup at some point. It’s cute, but I don’t remember buying it. It will be perfect for a couple of stockings I am going to make this v year, though.
