A while back, I asked "what level of quilter do you consider yourself?"

After reading answers - and looking around a bit more - I've come to realize that most of us are "better" at some areas /types of quilting than others. (Yes, some of you are excellent at everything - and I have not noticed any "brag" from any of you.)

So where do you feel your strengths are?

I think I can "illustrate" an answer fairly well - even if my drawings are on graph paper.

My math skills are better than average (in the quilting world) .

I can usually get my points and intersections to be where I want them to be.

I do not have a long arm, or an Accuquilt cutting system, or EQ quilt designing program - so those whole areas are N/A (not applicable) for me. (poor, poor, me)

I have enough confidence in my skills to consider that it might be the pattern that is wrong, instead of me.

Maybe I should rephrase the question to "What parts of quilting do you enjoy the most?"

At this point in my life, "finished" is not all that important. If whoever has to clean up my stuff chooses to dump it - well, I had fun playing/working with it while I could.

i'm too impatient to do all the practice necessary for decent free-motion quilting.

hand quilting. I love doing it, and the way it comes out. I never have to worry about puckers on the back!!

My strong suits according to me. I am the laughing stock of my quilty friends (all in good humor)
I don't have a stash and I finish everything. I know, I am strange. But, I hear my friends complain about all their fabric and what to do with it and how many started projects they gave up on.

Choosing colors is my strong point. My quilting friends will give my fabric choices the side eye but when I finish the quilt they are in awe that the fabrics do work when they couldn't see how. They ask me to add fabrics to what they chose but most times they are skeptical to actually use them together. I think that is the only natural talent I have for quilting. The rest was learned by doing.

Piecing is my strongest point along with Math that goes along with quilting (as I was a Math Teacher it better be lol).
I am a little ocd on points and intersections and I would rather make a simple 4 patch 1/4 " larger and trim down to have exact size than struggle with uneven squares I often do demos and quilt how to's at guild as folks find my explanations easy to understand and often friends seek me out for help. I am also confident enough to try anything ... at least once!!!

I love color and enjoy the process of choosing colors but I often rely on EQ because I am really picky and always am second guessing my choices. My choices are usually "safe" which can results in beautiful finished project but not exquisite.

I am in awe of others (like Onebyone) who can assemble a stack of fabric (that I might not even give shelf space to) and create a quilt that is spectacular. The other skill I lack is patience for hand work - I love the look of hand quilted quilts but am glad that I have a longarm.

My favorite part is collecting ideas and designing. Math has always been a strong skill for me. And, who doesn't like to shop for fabric? I am picky about the fabric that I select and rarely have something I don't like to use.

A friend says I'm great at putting disparate blocks, in both size and color, together into a cohesive quilt. My mom says I choose my colors well. I really don't know what my best quilty trait is, but it certainly seems to be accumulating UFOs! For every project I finish I seem to start two more. I always say I'm going to stop shopping and simply shop my stash, but then something appears on the "free" table at guild that I just have to have. So maybe stash building is my greatest strength,

I've been describing myself as a "stem" (science, technology, engineering, math) quilter lately. I've always loved the quilt math and playing with squares and triangles.

I think my real power is being able to see potential, you can hand me a sack of fabrics and I can make something pretty darn nice out of whatever it is. Taking it one step further, I describe myself as a scrappy quilter, but my super power is being able to put together collections of fabrics which connect in theme (music, sports, whatever) but not necessarily in color or design into something coherent.

I have a real skill of being able to kit together fabrics, along with a pattern idea. Can do that all day long, just not enough hours in the day for me to do them all myself...
