2025 Birthday Candy Swap - 2.5" Squares
#1261
Heather's candies should go out in the mail tomorrow... although they won't be picked up until Monday. I am going out of town and don't have much online access while I'm gone so I thought I'd post my candies project for 2.5 day today since I actually have something... these are leftovers from packages I've sent and while I remarked earlier that they were "not pretty," they are growing on me maybe because it was so fun to try quilting them. I am trying to learn FMQ and this was my first attempt at circles (clearly!) But, a learning experience.
Redpurselady, you posted a picture of a tote bag with candies many months ago. Could you tip me off what pattern you used? I think I'd like to turn these into something similar.

Pamelor, thanks for getting our 2.5 day off to a good start. Your circles look good to me. As with all things quilting, we can be too critical of ourselves. It took a long time for me to understand that the minor imperfections don't matter once the piece is washed. They disappear! Those same imperfections are also the indication that the piece was made by a human and not a "big old machine" in a factory.
Safe travels.

Hi Pamelor, regarding the tote I didn’t have a pattern. I made two panels with the squares (10 sq x 10 sq) and quilted on fusible batting. The lining was two pieces 20 1/2 x 20 1/2. My handles were 25”. I cut a 2 1/2” square from the bottom corners of each panel and the lining so I could box the bottom of the tote.
I’ll see if I can find a pattern for a tote that will help. I make these for charity. Some I quilt, some I don’t, just depends on the thickness of the fabric. The charity I volunteer for has lots of donated upholstery fabric so I don’t quilt with that.

Redpurselady,
Thank you! both these resources look good and the second one has some other small bag tutorials which I need to look at, too! Thank you for the response. I was thinking about batting and I'm thinking the regular 80/20 batting I used might be a bit floppy for a bag. I guess I need to find fusible batting ...which used to be a 3-block walk away, when Joann's was in town, but now will involve some online shopping.
