It’s almost 2.5 day and I'm posting early. This is Checkerboard Chain. Lots of colorful candy squares were used. The vertical lines of quilting are not as straight as I’d like but I got better the more I did. I’m happy with it, especially after washing where it scrunched up some. Hope to have another finished project next month.

Janice, you should be happy with your straight lines! Any small "variations" or wiggles aren't visible after the little crinkling of a washing. Your lines show off the little squares nicely The green binding and the floral back are good compliment to the multicolored squares of the top.

To others, Checkerboard Chain is a Lori Holt pattern that uses 2.5" squares that is easy and a perfect leader/ender project if you like to stitch that way. No need to purchase the pattern, it is available on YouTube with Lori walking you through the two blocks for free.

Janice, that is beautiful!! I love the pansy backing, too. What a great quilt to use up the candies, too!

WMUTeach, thank you for adding Lori Holt’s name to CC. I forgot all about that. This flu has me a bit fuzzy.

Pam - your circles are so far above what I can do!! great job! When making totes I use flannel or leftover scraps for my "batting"

I have started making these scrappy 16.5" blocks. Sashing is 1.5" and it comes together so easy.

Janice, your checkerboard chain turned out beautifully and I like the back too!
TG, thank you for your encouragement. This FMQ is growing on me -- it's fun and meditative and mistakes really do disappear in the big picture if I don't try to get too ambitious. Lots of starting, stopping, pacing myself.
Those last blocks you posted are very appealing to me and this may just be my next quilt project. I'm afraid I may have way overcut for next year and buried in candies! In a good way. As a new quilter I'm still finding my style and it's clear to me that scrappy is it.
On our road trip today we are going by Sisters, Oregon and their fabulous quilt shop is in my very near future!

I have been scurrying about this afternoon getting my next 2.5" square quilt started. I am cheating a bit because some of the blocks will be strip pieced from my deep autumn colored stash. Here is my start. Since my mitten state is scheduled for a big snow storm tomorrow, I may be doing some serious stitching while the flakes pile up.

I spent most of my morning today making Spiced Christmas jam. Oh, yum! What an easy way to make gifts for friends and neighbors! With a few little tweaks they will be ready for gifting. Do you make gifts for neighbors and friends?

Oh, yes, the Christmas channels on Pandora are playing in the background of jelly and squares making. "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas Thanksgiving".

TG, nice use of your 2.5s. Lovely combinations of little candy squares in each of your larger blocks. What fun too use up so many squares of candy and not have to count the calories. .

Pamelor I use Pellon 987f as the fusible batting for the totes. It is not very stiff but it gives enough body to the tote. There are other options out there for making bags.
