How often do you change your needle when piecing?

The pharmacies here give out biohazard sharps containers for free. I toss rotary blades and most needles in there. I doubt I'll ever fill this container in my lifetime lol, but if I do, the pharmacy will take the container.
I keep a few needles in an old pill bottle and use those for when I need to perforate paper. For example with paper piecing, using an unthreaded needle to sew along the pattern lines first means it will rip away easier later.

I put my used needles and bent pins in an old rotary cutter blade container. When it's full, I'll just tape it shut and toss, I guess. I've also taken some to the quilt store. She has a sharps container in the classroom for that purpose.

I usually break at least one needle per project. I put used needles and pins into an old prescription bottle. Used rotary blades go into the case that the new one came in. I should tape it shut before disposing of it. I also write OLD in sharpie on the case.

I change needles at least once per project, probably about every 5 bobbins or less. It is hard to keep track because I don't get to sew as much as I'd like! I have a hard plastic container for all the sharps, I bring it to retreat and it tends to get full there from everyone's use. I then tape it shut and dispose of it.

same! an old butter container with used rotary blades, needles, etc, before I die I'll need to remind one of my children to tape it shut and dispose safely LOL

oh no, it's a plastic container that had a spreadable butter & olive oil mix in it, I used to use a detergent bottle but nearly cut myself trying to drop a blade into it and I don't have little ones around anymore so I used the plastic container with a wider open top and I keep it closed tightly and under my machines extension table until i need it, it's been years and with all the blades & needles i doubt it's even 1/4 full. when it finally does get there I'll duct tape it securely and then toss it.

It is easy to change the needle after each quilt that is quilted on the long arm. It is a start-to-finish type situation. But piecing is harder to find a set rule. Definitely change after breaking, lol.
True story. When starting out in Middle School, I did not know about having to change the needle. Used the same one for a long while!
