@Stitches23 Are you making the Alternate block just the large Star without the Kitty Ears? I think your fabrics are lovely and will twirl together nicely!

I'm working on the Kitty Ears and will add them to the Alternate Block. It will take me a few days to get caught up for sure - maybe a week or so depending on work schedule and time to sew. My goal is to have it all pieced and together by the end of January, but we'll see.

Thank you, Stitches23! Your fabrics are just beautiful, and your arrangement of the Alternate block makes perfect sense given your fabrics. I've looked at lots of photos on Quiltville, and I think you'll find the sashing in the Lupine Star block makes more sense in a darker color with your darker fabrics. I don't care for the darker sashings with Bonnie's palette, but they look very good when other fabrics are dark.

Hi everyone- I'm catching up reading posts. I'm having supper in front of my computer...figure if I had to be sitting down anyway I might as well make good use of my time, lol! I've enjoyed the progress pictures and the thought processes others have. It helps me think outside the box bit.

Speaking of thinking outside the box....I'm toying with exchanging the ice blue sashing strips for the star blocks to a light green. I have one green fabric that I'm considering. It's a Michael Miller Fairy Frost print and it looks icy green. When Bonnie first came out with the photo image of the Lupines, I saw a lot of green. More so than the purple or pink. I had tucked away the thought of incorporating green, maybe a border or binding? I'm entertaining that thought now. I have extra star blocks and I may make a sample with that frosty green. It's very light and that's how I'd like to have the sashing - light, almost not there. Some of my blues are med to dark blue. I can choose a selection of only my lightest blues, but then I thought, why not use one constant fabric?? Maybe even a solid, but I don't have a light blue that would work. (someone told me recently that I'm not allowed to buy anymore fabric. Oh yeah, it was just me talking to myself!). Anyway, I guess I was looking for a way to tame the busy-ness of the overall quilt. Now this is really off the rails for me! My style is typically as scrappy as I can get! I'll play around with fabric choices tonight, hoping I don't get lost down too many squirrely paths!

Iceblossom- I definitely like that Kaffe!

Pinkflowers, I like the idea of the soft icy green. When I look at Bonnie's photos of Iceland, I see that light green too. I will be watching for your photos in the future.

I'm no where near having this quilt done. But I'm okay with that, especially since I still haven't finished putting on the borders on
Indigo Way (waving hello to joe'smom). So far the first 3 clues are done, still working on clue 4, clue 5 is finished, clue 6 started,
clue 7 started and with clue 8 I have been cutting the sashing and pink squares. I'm hoping to have Lupine & Laughter, along with Indigo Way finished (at least to the flimsy stage) by March. We shall see.

@pinkflowers I think green instead of blue for the sashing pieces would be lovely. I think I would try for the same light/dark value as the blues in the QST from Part One, but they are far enough apart that they don't connect so it doesn't really matter.

One of the odd sub-design things I see in my reverse background is a black tulip -- you can see it pretty easily in the 4 block pictures. I've been playing with mental ideas where the the sashing is a green stem to that tulip shape... but I don't really see the tulip at all with a light background.

If I do the sparkle fairy version of this project, I would be using the light iridescent blue I loved from the begining for all the sashing. I know the piece wasn't big enough for Bonnie's requirements but I think I have enough for the inner border as well as the sashing, but not enough for those QST squares and would use a different fabric there.

Edit: Special mention to Sync (and Joe'smom) again for working on not just one but two Bonnie Hunter projects at once! You go!!

I changed my mind and decided to work on some of the Lupine Star block sections.

I have determined yes, I am just happier with switching the center of the sashing to gray. Some of that is simply because some of my fabrics included as Black and White, were too much white.

I still have a day or so decide on which gray as I work on the blocks. In the picture, I have a medium gray that had been in the wrong tote and got missed for this project which is the background for the top two rows, and the darker charcoal that was my first thought on the bottom two. Again, just because of the amount I have, the charcoal brick walkway that can be used for squares, inner border, binding and back has a really strong argument.

But once I see the blocks together especially with the border units, I may decide to do a different inner border. The gray and white is still possible, the Kaffe is still in the running. Isn't that such a great piece? When I saw it, I told Barb I think I need some of this, and she said you want the whole thing?? and I said no... I only need a small piece but I still took more than I needed, which is why it is available for the inner border.

edit: I see now one of my lupin block halves is upside down in the picture -- better to find out now than when it is sewn!!

    Iceblossom, that really is sensational!

I saw a nice modification of the Lupine Star sashing in a Christmas version of the quilt. The small square was dark, the colored portion went out 1 1/2" to match the small HST and the rest of the strip was in neutral.

Very nice Iceblossom! How do you feel about an appliqued stem for that tulip you see?

I started adding the frosty green 1.5" strips (instead of using blue). I like it so far and will continue to do all the blocks that way. I'm hoping to have enough of the green for the inner border. Maybe I'll get a photo uploaded later today.

Sync and joe'smom - the mention of Indigo Way has me remembering I wanted to make it in all solids, a smaller-ish version to hang on the wall. I didn't even start it that year, but as always I saved the clues. With our USA Semiquincentennial this year, I wanted to commemorate with a patriotic quilt and thought this may be a good one. Not sure yet - I may be over-committing myself! Whatever pattern I choose, my goal is to be able to put "2026" on the label.
