So, pleased to see the envelopes are pouring in and one celebration is gleefully continuing and the second in being planned. Yeah birthdays!

Any one working on a 2.5 project this month?

WMUTeach, I’m still in the midst of my decluttering so no new projects for now. I hope to work on a candy project in a few months.

    Have a good day.

Good morning! I always have a leaders and enders project going with 2.5s. Right now I’m making 9-patches mixing matching bright squares with random white on white squares. It’s astonishing how quick the blocks pile up while working on other projects. Those will ultimately become a donation quilt that I can quilt on my home machine.

I’ve been trying to finish about 65 6” blocks this week after work - I need 200 - for a scrappy hunter star using Kaffe leftovers that I want to work on at retreat over the long weekend starting Friday. The retreat center is in the foothills of the Cascade mountains about an hour’s drive away. The weather is supposed to be not raining which will be great. I hate having to unload everything in

I’m headed to the office today to work and taking Angelo (my dog) with me. Have a great day, everyone!

“Pouring rain” somehow disappeared from my post…

Thinking about how I'll use my candies from this years swap. I've previously made 9 or 16 patch blocks and set them with sashing or an alternating block. I'm working on a candies project now where I've made the 16 patch, then paired with a WOW to sew on the diagonal to make a HST. I'll set it the blocks in rows to make a zig zag pattern. I had to put this project in naptime so I could focus on this years Bonnie Hunter mystery.
I'm looking for something a little different for my 2026 candies (will be opening those sweet packages this weekend- yay!).
I have two directions I might go:
    1. Debby Brown Color Blocks - I'm not sure which pattern, but with this idea I'll be sorting the candies by color and make blocks from there.
    2. Quilted Twins - I LOVE perusing this site! I get lost in ideas every time. The one I may do is Walkabout
    https://www.quiltedtwins.com/free-patterns.htm
    https://media.rainpos.com/10507/Walkabout.pdf

I've not checked the mail yet today. It's a bit rainy and I'll wait for a dry moment to walk out to the mailbox. I'll post if anything comes in.

Pinkflowers I have done that one too. I did all black and white prints. Donation quilt so it is no longer in my hands. It does eat up a lot of 2.5s even if you do not go as large as the original pattern.

Just in case you need more ideas: https://meadowmistdesigns.blogspot.c...e-pattern.html This one came from Traveling Grandma last year and is a free pattern.

Another this one from Fat Quarter Shop and free https://www.fatquartershop.com/pocke...ee-pdf-pattern

And you can always wander through last year's swap posting to find additional ideas. Have fun and keep sharing 2.5" square patterns. We LOVE them. Happy "opening day" this weekend.

WMUTeach, thanks for the pattern links. I'll also take a look at prior years posts. I plan to have fun playing with candies and organizing by color or theme!
Odd tip, if this works for any of you....I save fresh mushroom containers, like the blue ones from Walmart. They are plastic. The smaller containers work well for sorting the 2.5" squares. I'll also use the bigger mushroom containers for potato chip size fabric cuts (2.5" x 4.5"). All my fabric scraps are organized in plastic drawer bins, by color or theme. The mushroom container fits nicely in the drawer and keeps my 2.5" candies nice and neat. The rest of the drawer is a mess, however, as that has bigger chunks of fabric, typically smaller than a fat quarter.
The photo is of a color blocks style quilt that I made a few years ago.

Wondering if your color block quilt was a Debbie Brown, I made one of lavender/purple fabric and I tried the circular quilting. Not tried that again but was OK once you got going.

WMUTeach, pretty circular quilting! I tried it on my DB color block quilt and, well, I didn’t do a very good job. It was my first (and only) time quilting like that. I found it very challenging.

    Have a good day.
