It is the 25 of January, AKA 2.5 Day! Here is what I have been working on. I have 4 babies within my circle of friends arriving soon. Number ! is due in two weeks. So I dug into my stash/scraps. I found enough white from cut offs from another quilt to make 5" squares.. I dove into my bin of 1930 reproduction prints and cut piles of 2.5s. Away I go with snowballing two corners. (Tee-Hee-Hee, a perfect week for snowballs!) Now I hope to join all the blocks and have a finished top this afternoon.

I may just do a variation on this snowballed cornered for at least one other quilt. Using stash fist!

What have you been working on that uses 2.5s?

2.5 Day it is. I forgot until I saw your lovely project, WMUTeach. I am putting this together, X’s and O’s. It’ll have a couple of borders to bring it up to a nice size for a baby or small child. The white snowballed corners use 2.5 squares. Woo hoo! Something to show.

We’re getting freezing rain right now and there’s at least 3/8 inches of ice on the fence so things are not looking good for the trees. A few small branches are down. Nothing bad yet.

    Back to my reading.

Janice, a lovely reverse of what I was doing to make a whole new quilt look.

Stay safe and enjoy what ever is beautiful about the trees being covered with ice. All you need is a few minute of sun to make ice sparkle.....and melt!

I thought I would I'd share a tutorial that I made for my Valentine Candy Block in 2017. Some of you may not have seen it before.

    https://www.quiltingboard.com/vbulle...k-t292330.html

The quilt that I made from it was very popular:

    https://www.quiltingboard.com/vbulle...y-t292328.html

Winter this year has been challenging. The gas boiler went out twice in December so no heat for a couple of weeks. Our forecast this week was for a major storm beginning Saturday through Sunday and below freezing temperatures for another week afterward. There is a high probability of electricity outages.

Friday night I went to the faucets to have them dripping through the frigid temperatures, and there was no water coming out of them!!! How could they have frozen so quickly? I finally heard air coming out of the faucets before they exploded with muddy water all over the rooms. I spent until 5:00 a.m. going from faucet to faucet anxiously trying to figure out what to do. How could the water be muddy? Did I have a water line break in my yard?... Long story short... there was a water main break on my street, but I didn't know about it until the next day. I drink filtered water from my refrigerator so I had no reason to have bottled water, and I couldn't drink the muddy water. I was able to find some bottled water on Saturday so at least I'll have something to drink this week.

I hope Punxsutawney Phil doesn't see his shadow on February 2. I'm ready for an early Spring.

WMUTeach - thanks for doing the 25 special day - I like the idea, it's motivating! The photos posted by you and others are sweet and soft.

Last night I put up progress of my "sometimes project" that uses the 2.5 candies on my design wall. Last time I had it up I placed the blocks in a zig-zag design. I'm making 16 patch blocks then using a 8.5" White on White square to make HSTs. I'll work on projects like this between other projects, or when I'm just mulling over ideas. I keep it in a basket tray from Dollar Tree near my machine so it's available to grab and sew. I also have a 1.5" squares project that I keep readily available. The baskets are actually between my two machines. I have a fancy one with bells, whistles and embroidery and my old lovely and dear Pfaff - which had to be packed up to make her way to the repair shop. In her place is my husbands Singer Heavy Duty machine. It's a brut, but for string piecing or sewing these charms, it'll do. I found the machine at an estate sale, brand new in the box for $50. I thought this would be great for my husband to use since he would often request me to make a pouch or repair something. He learned how to use it, bought a variety accessories. Even took it apart to change the lighting to LED. I "steal" it from him once in a while, lol.

I feel for those going through the winter woes with this snow and ice storm. Be safe and well everyone!

Hello all -- Janice and pinkflowers, thank you for the ideas! I'm making 16-patches just to get going, but not sure what I want to do with them. I made some that seemed a bit somber to me then started making more cheery-colored ones. The groups will not match, I'm afraid. Anyway, I've perused tons of candy quilt ideas over the past 2 weeks but am still undecided. Once I get more done I'll have to figure it out.

Hello everyone! It is so much fun, and inspiring(!!!) to see all the different things you are doing with your candies. WMUTeach, when I saw what you're working on it reminded me of kite strings where you have the effect of on-point quarter square triangles. Janice, I like your idea for using 5-inch charm squares with candies. And JENNR8R and Pinkflowers, I love the scrappy effect of the heart blocks and the half-square triangles. Super cool, all of them! I'm with JENNR8R, I'm more than ready for an early spring. This morning it was 29 degrees and some icy patches on my way to church. I am very careful in icy conditions - tore my left meniscus two years ago and never want to go through that again.
Here are a couple of pictures from my recent retreat. The triangle baby quilt has about 250-ish 2.5" squares, and the other is the layout of my 200+ 6" Hunter Star blocks. I needed the enormous design wall at camp to put the blocks up. It would have been impossible to do that at home.
