Today I was looking for the perfect fab for a quilt and came across lots of yardage I was either gifted or took for from the Project Linus free closet. I've had some of this fab for a least 3 years! So tomorrow I'm going to go thru3 tubs and grab yardage that needs to be donated. I decided If I really, really like it, I MAY keep a yard.

A generous way to clear out fabric that is just hiding out in a bin. Sort, donate and take a deep breath and enjoy the open space in your sewing space and freedom from "over abundance",.

I have spent a large part of this week creating a baby quilt from odds and ends in my stash. I found just enough WoW for background and I dug into my 1930's Repro bin for additional color. All blocks made, today is assembling the top day! Hoping to be finished by the end of this month. I have 4 baby quilts to make ASAP. Photo later, when finished.

Keep stitching, donating, and .making with what is at hand in your sewing space.

I have not gotten off to a good start for 2026. I've added about 2 1/2 yards and the year just began. In my defense most of it is being used for a current project. There is one yard however that came home with me just because I liked it. Now the hunt to find something to make with it begins.

Good for you Lena1952! You are of course free to purchase what is need for a specific project that is not already in your stash. For instance, a backing for a finished quilt or a blender that will allow you to finish a quilt. You have the right attitude about the one yard you just liked.. Find something in your stash that will go with it and create a quilt or other project to use what you have at hand.

I'm afraid I broke down and bought some fabric so I could make pillow shams to go with the quilt that's on the frame right now. I had 7 leaf motifs I wanted to use up from the quilt fabrics plus I found all the scraps leftover as I made this quilt back in 2017-18. It's the Forest Floor by Wings in a Prayer. I knew I'd have some backing leftover but didn't think I'd have enough for 2 shams plus a couple throw pillows so found a fabric close enough to use for the backing of all the pillows. Please forgive me for losing my grip on buying fabric. I'll try not to let it happen again. At least I'll be using the leftover scraps plus It's been quite awhile since I actually bought fabric, maybe a couple 3-5 years excluding backing fabrics which hasn't been many either.

Enabler Ice here -- we each get to make the Moratorium what we want, as strict, or as measured, or whatever.

But as a whole we've always recognized that sometimes in order to use up things we need things, and those things are perfectly fine and dandy.

For me it's the extra things that jump in that I have to watch for. The retail therapy aspect. The plain simple desire to possess lovely things...

It's a constant struggle!

Lena and Snooze, Iceblossom is absolutely right. This thread is about the "try" (sorry, Yoda!) and sometimes fabric acquisition is required for success. Your seats on the wagon are still warm!

I went to Shipshewana, Indiana this morning to get some fabric to finish three quilts. I purchased a little less than 6 yards for two backs and 1/3 yd to finish some blocks for a third project. Although these won't leave my sewing room this month of January, they will be out in February! I am snuggling back into my warm seat on the wagon and look forward to finishing some quilts ASAP.

BYW, the drive was slow but not terrible. Indiana got more snow from this weekend's Monster Storm than lower Michigan. We are scheduled for lake effect snow tomorrow, thus the journey today. I can now hunker down and may be finish one quilt this week and prep to take one quilt too a LA and make little blocks for my third project. Yeah!

Thank you for all the support you give to fellow quilters who temporarily fall off the Moratorium wagon. While I understand I "can" purchase what I need I didn't expect to begin acquiring fabrics so soon into the new year. I haven't purchased a fabric just because I love it in over 3 years and was surprised that I wasn't able to walk away from that 1 yard piece. It goes with nothing in my stash and yet it followed me home. My theory on fabric has always been "If you love it, you will find a purpose for it". Which is one of the reasons I have such a large stash to start with. On a happy note: I just finished a Comfort quilt and removed 4 yards from my stash. Thank you all for the encouragement to do what we need and use what we have.

Searching thru my stash looking for enough yardage for back. Nope. Nothing is big enough which is the norm for me. So, grabbing large hunk/chunks and making backs. Scrappy on the front, strappy on the back. TA DA!!!
