Some great plans for stash- (and new purchase-) using, WMU and Julienm, and cold weather is perfect for hunkering down and getting stuff done in the sewing room!

Lena, I was thinking about what you said about not expecting to buy quite so early in the year... maybe think of it as a fabric "vaccine" that will help you resist later temptations! :-D

Gemm, I love the idea of the "Fabric Vaccine" to help me resist later temptations. So far it's working - although we have been snowed in for a week. LOL

As I expected and mentioned in post #30, I was unable to resist checking the free table at quilting this morning, but I'm pleased to report that while I did walk away with some fabric, both pieces fall solidly within the "reasonable acquisition" definition. One is a white/off-white batik (about 1/3 yard?) and the other is a textured creamy tonal (rather more than a yard).

I'm considering the second piece to be a "rescue" and an act of mercy on my part - it clearly lost a battle with a dark blue piece of fabric, likely in a washing machine, and will need some surgery to excise the really badly marked spots but I am sure I will be able to find most of it a good home in a quilt some day (and hopefully soon). :-)

Considering all of the positive parts of this experience, I'm actually going to say I don't even feel I got off the wagon at all - just kind of leaned waaaaaaay out for a moment! My seat's still warm!

I am jumping in for the year with a big YES in joining the fabric moratorium. I have been cutting for the past week, yardage and scraps. Working on Bonnie Hunter's leader/ender Easy Breezy so the scraps are feeling the pain. I have also been cutting Chemo Port Pillows and getting them ready for more winter days. My granddaughter has chosen a quilt pattern and we are searching for the fabric from stash. I love the idea of making potholders with scraps for those setting up in a home or apartment. So many ideas her on the QB! Now it's cutting time...

sounds really easy for my stash…….gained 12 yards (about). Found a new Micheal’s and several remnants so l bought several of them. Will be using it for Christmas quilts and toys.

One of my goals was to attack the UFOs BUT instead I'm going to grab a container of scraps and turn them into a scrappy quilt.

Wonder what I will end up with if I just start sewing with reckless abandon without having a glass of wine to help me. Maybe a dog bed? lol

Julienm1, you can still attack the UFOs. Pop back to the UFO Challenge thread when your heart leans toward getting a UFO out of your way. We are ALWAYS there.

Just for my own personal accountability, I calculate and record my fabric in/fabric out each month. So,.....January Fabric OUT: 7 yards. Fabric IN: 5.75 yards (All purchased to finish a UFO and two projects in progress.) That leaves me at 1.25 yards more out of my sewing stash than in. Some months are like that. Other months seem to be just piles of finishes. My fingers are crossed that February will be a pile of finishes month.

This morning, I found myself standing over one of my UFO containers. (I won't tell you how many I have. ...LOL) I have 8 days to finish a UFO and have it ready for the meeting. First 2 would take too long to finish but the third I'm working on. 72 6" blocks that one time was a top, but no idea why I totally took it apart. Now it's on the design wall just waiting for me to fondle it as I finish it.

I almost made it through January without any fabric additions. But I was out and about this past Saturday near my favorite LQS. One of the special things this shop offers is their 5th Saturdays discount of 20% on all fabric, notions, etc. that can fit into their 5th Saturday bag, (which btw I happen to keep in my car). I did stop in looking for a light green fabric for a border on my lastest project - needless to say I wound up with 4 yards coming home with me. That light green fabric (only needed about 2 yards) was a end of bolt special, and an extra 10% off, so that became 2 7/8 yards and of course a few FQs jumped into my bag too. I'm now starting the year off at + 4 yards.

I am about to go visit my friend Barb in Arizona for about a week. It is only partly about the visiting and good times -- we are also going to be working on her fabric stash, supplies and sewing areas. When I went before in December, I brought up any fabric downstairs and quite a bit of the supplies to upstairs. This time we deal with upstairs! Barb has serious health issues and can only go up/down once/twice a day but she sorts and folds and is very diligent if I do the fetch and carry stuff.

I know I am going to be tempted by her wonderful fabrics and she is very generous... I am going to pack my suitcase rather full and try to come home with very little.
