I always thought I would like to learn embroidery. But that's not actually a valid answer, because I started my learning process last month! If I were to begin a new craft, I think I would like to do some pottery wheel creations.

A new craft? I love those funky buttons that were introduced to the QB about a week ago. I just drove through southeastern Arkansas and saw a bunch of pipe and muffler sculptures so I want to make some lawn art via welding now. I love the slow pace of hand embroidery but that wouldn't be a new one for me. Scrapbooking might be fun, too, but oh the supplies!! Everytime I have put together a candy package I try to figure out how to make the cards more elaborate. My imagination is woefully short. I'll get there. Practice, practice, practice. Botanical jewelry crafting (all botanical, not mixed with metals) is also an interesting craft. https://philly.makerfaire.com/maker/entry/635/ . It appeals to my need to have fairies in my life. (Girl Scout brownie stories got that started!)

Hi Everyone! Catching up this Saturday morning with all the posts I missed. Sipping my coffee and enjoying reading past posts about weather, favorite tools, and learning a new craft.
The weather here: currently 70 and a bit overcast. Sun peeks out now and again. Today's high of 87 with a 3% chance of rain.
Favorite tool: Hmm, not sure I really have one. Specialty rulers are great when it helps make the cuts you need for a specific job. I really like a tool my husband recently made on his 3-D printer. It's called a scraping tool that he made for his own hobby purposes. When he showed it to me, I thought thought would be a great stiletto. The two ends are flat (like for scrapping) with one end about 1/2" wide and the other about 1/4" wide. I use it for fused applique, opening a seam (similar to finger pressing) and to hold or push shifty or bulky seams through my machine. He made an extra batch for me to bring to Guild and they were a hit!
New-to-me-craft: I've dabbled in a variety crafts over the years, but one I've never tried is knitting. I've really not done yarn-work, like knitting, tatting, and only tried crochet (but failed, so don't like it, lol!). I watch Kate knit on The Last Homely House You Tube. She knits and quilts. Knitting seems like it would be peaceful. I'm tempted to try, maybe, someday. Two areas of crafting that I would really like to develop is hand embroidery. I've done some, but would like to incorporate it more into my quilts, or small projects. Another is making photograph quilts - like taking a photo and using fabric and other materials to make quilted wall art.

Congratulations swappers! I am impressed with all of different crafts that are lurking in your deep desires. You have such diverse interests in a someday new craft. Some are already trying new things or have experimented with your "new to you" craft and that creativity is splendid.
I have been trying wool applique and honestly it is not tripping my trigger. I will keep at it but it has not stolen my heart. It has give me a venue to use of my embroidery sills. More importantly, wool applique has provided me with an expanded group of fiber arts friends. Nearly all are quilters and they are such kind and giving new acquaintances with stories to tell and skills to share..
I know the Dorset Buttons will not be a long term craft for me. Just a fun distraction that uses minimal tools and materials I have on hand. I would really like to learn how to do calligraphy well. I have played around with a flattened marker for years but I would like to learn properly and begin to perfect this form of writing with the proper tools.

Good morning. If I had my druthers, I would be able to step back in time a couple of decades and start counted cross stitch again. Unfortunately my eyes are not good enough to do the detailed work I so love so now I satisfy myself with quilting. I’ve been considering picking up needles or a crochet hook again. I spent many peaceful hours knitting and crocheting in years past. I also needlepointed a lot. As for a new hobby, it would be glass blowing. My family and I took a couple of hour lesson some years back and each made a cup. It was as a lot of fun and a lot of work even with the aid of the instructor. Yes, I think that’s what I’d do. Glass blowing.

Janice -you're post about glassblowing as a new hobby reminded me of the times I visited the Corning Museum of Glass. We lived somewhat nearby and really enjoyed the museum. What a cool craft!
