Just jumping in to say I quilt on a Janome 7700 and for the front drag, you can put a pillow in your lap, between your chest and the table, to provide support for the quilt. Size of pillow will depend on your body and where you comfortably sit when you're quilting so try out a few to see if you can find one that works for you! You can also line up books along that front edge of the table if your extension doesn't go out to the edge.

I too, put my adjustable ironing board to the left of my quilting table, and add extra books/boxes/foam insulation to raise the height of the "table" level with my sewing machine extension table. You can also put a vinyl tablecloth on top of all the support items to make a slick surface for less drag. Fluff the quilt around the sewing machine every few minutes to make sure everything stays loosey goosey and you're good to go! I no longer roll the quilt inside the throat because moving the entire sausage is too hard on my shoulders. I just puddle/wrinkle/smoosh as necessary.

With my smaller Janome 7318 (6in throat), I spent some time cutting (with a box cutter) a foam insulation board into smaller pieces to stack and tape together with packaging tape. After I got it the right height, level with my sewing machine bed, I covered the whole thing in vinyl tablecloth taped down with more packaging tape to make an entire table topper as an extension. It's so awesome and my only regret was not doing it sooner. Hilariously, I haven't made one yet for the 7700 because kids, life, you know.

Anyway, it was cheap, I didn't care about looks (although you could put photos and such under the clear vinyl to make it look prettier!), and has been fantastic to use. It wasn't difficult to make, just took some time to saw through it with the box cutter.
