Hooray Pinkflowers, for both the top and the intended DiL
and yes we will want pictures!!
Maybe you can incorporate the Flying Geese blocks in the backing? I also make little dog blankets or lately I've decided I might as well make pillow cases for my quilts and can use the blocks in those.
I'm glad you found an answer to your border. I was super lucky that my scant seams worked out so well, I'd have to go back and look but my width was almost 2" wider than the correct finished border, and I added an extra row as well. But it all magically came together more than from my math or expertise... OK, there was maybe a little fitting, but it sure looks nice and smooth finished.
Still learning my "new" machine, I think this is about a year now working with it. I think I need to run a project with a lot of long repetitive seams and get this seam allowance figured out. I really do prefer a "quilter's foot" with is marked with 1/4" seams both sides and front and back marks as well. I just have this smooth scant foot, I miss that quarter in front line too but that is an easy fix with a bit of tape and/or if I get really serious a file.

This was earlier today in my basting space, a.k.a. my back patio. I typically use basting spray, and this is the best place to do that. I've since prepared the backing by cutting in half WOF, then sewing two LOF edges. And ironed the full back and top.I used other methods before to prepare the backing, but this worked for me today. Good idea, Iceblossom, about incorporating the flying geese on the backing. But since I also have a few left over blocks, and pieces parts, I was thinking of a pillow, or baby blanket. My process is slow going today. New dog, Henry, is occupying my time and loves to be exactly where I want to be, lol! And, today I found a singer Touch & Sew 626 Zig Zag machine in original cabinet that looks pretty good on FB marketplace, $100.00. We're going to take an in-person look at it later this afternoon. I've been looking for something like this for rope sewing. Hope this one will be it!
