If you have any fabric with spots or dots, you can use them for eyes. I applique them on.

Good idea to use dotted fabric. A bit of heat and bond and some stitching and the applique would be perfect for your dino eyes.

One thing you should consider depending on how old the granddaught is, would she try to remove the eye and put it into her mouth as she might choke on it. Either embroidering it or using those pigma pens as someone mentioned would be better for safety reasons. If she's older, its whatever works.

My granddaughter is 25. I make a specific quilt for each of my grandkids, when they tell me what kind of quilt they want. Somehow, a dinosaur quilt never even entered my mind, lol. As for being washed, maybe once a year. I will have to look into the fabric paints. My embroidery skills are pretty close to zero, so the fabric paint may be my best option. Or maybe the Heat n Bond. I have until the end of the year to get it done, so I will definitely try some of the options you suggested. This is the first time I've ever tried to put eyes on, but the blocks just look so "blah" without the eyes.

I suppose, at 25, your granddaughter would know better than to 'chew' on a quilt embellishment LOL. However, her own child(ren), if and when they arrive, or a beloved pet, may not. Why not ask the recipient what she would prefer?
