UFO Challenge 2026
#101
Well, dear UFOers, it is March 4 and I finally finished my first UFO of the year! This is my #11 for the UFO Challenge, January. Yesterday was one of those yucky unwanted arthritis days, so I spent a large part of the afternoon and evening sitting, listening to an audio book with needle in hand while turning the binding. Now it is finished. Oh, happy day!
Today, I go for February. Finished, layered and "rats" the bottom border is ruffled a bit too much to just ease in with the quilting. Rip, rip and off it will come then, whurr, whurr time to get after the quilting. Na, don't plan on finishing today, but I do have the binding already cut for the post quilting stage.
#11 was a quilt group mystery quilt from last year, 2025. I needed to find a use for the large floral and honestly, I am glad it is done. Not my favorite but I used the floral, used colors pulled from the print to add some BIG pop and now I can move one. Don't now who will receive it, but it will all be revealed to me when the perfect match comes to me. Yup, that is how I give away quilts.
Yes, ZuZu assured me that the quilt has passed inspection.

Boy, Lena, I hope that print is happy because I have half a computer paper box full of large print fabric. It was donated to me from the studio of a quilter who passed away. All bright, all large and all "Free Spirit". So not my vibe, but such lovely fabric. I have been cutting hearts out of it for breast cancer pillows. Works great but I know not everyone loves a pillow that shouts "look at me!"
If any one has suggestions for large print patterns, I am open to it. Most of the cuts I have a 1.5 - 1.75 yards per print. Limiting but beautiful.

My February number is complete! The pattern is Mathemagical, a free pattern that looks great with any fabric collection. I’ve had some Australian-themed fabrics sitting around in a drawer for an unbelievable number of years, and I used them here. For the back, I used a large piece of the remaining Aussie fabric, emblazoned with suns and kangaroos, and strips of anything sandy-colored.
Thing is… I had to buy a few more fat quarters to supplement the ones I had to have enough for this pattern and, well, I ended up with enough to make two of these. I have a friend with two sons, and I might make a companion quilt with the other FQ’s and different colored borders. This was so fun and easy to make.
My March number is a baby quilt that’s already almost complete, so I’m almost back on track!

I am about 80% finished with the quilting on my February quilt and should finish the quilting today during my Zoom quilting group this afternoon. Then sew binding to the front. That leaves the and stitching this weekend. It seems I am working at snails pace but....slow and steady, you know the rest. My March quilt is ready to go. What a thrill it will be to get it on the quilt wall and start layering. No predictions until I am closer to a finish, but it will be MARCH!!.
Keep working on your UFOs, team before spring and summer activities draw us outside and into other interests. I hear Canada geese honking looking for the perfect nesting site so that means cute little mustard colored distractions are on the way. I spotted day lilies poking up little green sprouts this morning. Spring is near even it it is supposed to snow in my back yard later today. It won't last long.
Chin up and needle down. Here we go!

Quossom, that's a lovely quilt, and I spy an adorable dog in the backing photo.
I have an unexpected contribution. After some thought, I decided to pass on my Indigo Way quilt top to my friend who has a group that hand quilts tops for donation. Normally I'll down-size a Bonnie Hunter quilt, but with Indigo Way, I thought it would ruin the symmetry of the design, so I made it full size, which is too big for me. It's an odd enough looking quilt that I wouldn't feel confident giving it sight unseen, and it would cost a lot to send out for finishing.

And now I really AM caught up!
Here’s the March number, this little flannel bear quilt. I even like how the back turned out, with the birch fabric.
Now I can play with that second Aussie fabric Mathemagical quilt. I earned it!

Yes, you have earned the opportunity to go for a new quilt, Quossum! Cute bears by the way. Don't we all have a soft spot for little teddy bears.
I finished my #11 February Challenge UFO last night! Hurray!! Now today is layer and start quilting on my March #5 Challenge UFO. Catching up too! I feel like the little engine that could.... I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.
