I think I have to quit looking at websites other quilters find and think they are great. I look at them, and yes, they are great. HOWERER, I have too many web sites saved, too many pics of quilts I think I know how to make, too many patterns printed or downloaded. Books? Not too many.
I get lost on the internet and lose so much quilting time.
Am I alone with this problem?

I have mentioned it before in the "What are you Organizing thread?" Periodically, I will go through my saved patterns and re-evaluate. "Will I ever really make this quilt?" or so often in my case, "Do I just like the colors?" I often I find duplicates, delete, I find patterns that are too complicated or that have a "Kabilliion" pieces in just one block, delete. (Not my style or pleasure place.) In the end this process is much like cleaning our a file cabinet drawer or a shelf in your quilting library. Delete and keep what you really want.
Know your self and your tastes, be realistic and dump what can go. The same goes for websites that you join to get one free pattern and they send you "stuff" for years. Unsubscribe!
Happy deleting, my quilty friends.

I have shortened my time online looking at quilting sites. It's getting silly with AI enhanced pictures of quilts and projects. I don't want enhanced or AI generated images when I look at quilting. I have given up a lot of quilting sites that allow AI. It's not real and doesn't belong in quilting.

I used to stay on the internet all morning long and never got much done as by noon time, I didn't want to get started on anything then, telling myself it's too late to start something. So I limit myself to the internet to 9:30-10am, then off I go to get something done. Now, that doesn't mean I don't check the internet for emails, facebook answers to my questions from time to time as I head for the bathroom run. Sometimes I tell myself I have to get such and such done before I can even sit down with my 1 cup of coffee and the internet too.
This morning I got up late, had laundry to put away, wash some rubber slippers I wear around the house before I could sit down to read what's new. I also always get the cats fed, teapot filled with water for later in the evening, litter boxes cleaned out before I can even come downstairs plus I have to get dressed also. So now I'm reading my emails, checking this website, my financial websites which I do daily since getting hacked a couple years ago.

A while back I cancelled some emails from companies that I had never ordered from in the first place. Nowadays there are many others I don't even open before deleting. I will only open an email if I think there might be a good deal on precuts or a certain color that I need. Patterns I will browse through, but I already have a million and just need to sit down and pick one out to use. I stick to the basic colors in threads for sewing and quilting. My bank account is growing and my stash is very slowly depleating. Am I winning....I think so.

Know what you mean -- I find myself going down the rabbit hole of quilt web sites, usually on my ipad. I'll take pictures of quilts I like and may want to make. At least once a week, I go back and delete the ones I know I'll never make. I've also unsubscribed from emails from companies I don't use, even a few that I use but they send way too many emails.

Pre-Covid, I was visiting my sisters. After supper, we were all relaxing and I glanced around the room. They were both on their tablets--looking at Pinterest. I tried it for a while and realized it was a huge rabbit hole that I just did not need. I love the -Pinterest and -ai features on Mr. Google. About the only time I don't mind the AI feature on Google is when I'm looking up a crossword clue.
It seems these days, every site has a 'We'd like to send you notifications' tab, which I find very annoying. The worst was a site that immediately sent me multiple notifications just because I had clicked on one of their products. Thank goodness it had an 'unsubscribe' tab too.
I've even unsubscribed from a few of my regular and favourite sites because a lot of content seems to repeat on a regular basis and for one especially, the site now insists on my supplying much more info than my email--just to download a 'free' pattern. Sorry, not happening.

My niece said when her little boy sneaked outside at my house. I looked at my phone for a minute! . I timed her it was 18 min. My great nephew was fine, hubby was outside with him, so I timed her to see how long it took for her to look up. I told her you have no idea how fast time goes when you are scrolling on line. This could have gone very wrong.
Stil concerns me about young parents always scrolling every time they sit down. I get angry but can't say anything.

You're not alone.
I still love looking through Pinterest, and Youtube, and various quilting websites because it's fun - it's like a virtual quilt show, or art show.
But I've also made a physical list in a notebook of the quilts and projects I REALLY want to make, including notes on which fabrics I've earmarked for them. And of the 20 or so projects on that list, about half of them have been kicking around in my mind for years. So I'm making those projects my priority and have even started to cut out fabric to make my own kits to have ready to go.
Like I said, I truly LOVE being able to google all kinds of stuff, and seeing new ideas, and trends, and getting ideas for colour combinations. But I've also gotten very good at being honest with myself. When I ask myself - "Does this idea spark joy and make me want to cut into my favourite fabrics to make it? Or is it just another pretty quilt that is fun to look at?" - I'm able to be honest with myself now. And I enjoy the eye candy for what it is without bothering to save the pattern or bookmark the link.
