Well gals, its been a joy reading your notes so far and I am hoping I can get the ok from Janice to join up. I am finishing a pottery class and since Arthur (arteritis) kept me company at the wheel, I hope to relax again sewing which is much easier on my old hands. I have made several baby quilts, finished another of my sister's UFO quilts, and currently am feverishly trying to complete a 576 block quilt for my Birthday Buddy who is graduating from high school this year. Hope to show you my prints soon.

Loving the fabric choices everyone. They got me thinking of what is in stash that can be added to your choices to make 12.5 Inch blocks that will please you and add to your quilt, table runners or even potholder collections. I am still picking though this and that to find a final choice.

Duckling, I have a nasty cranky old friend Arthur also and I would like to kick Arthur out the door, but he is stuck in my hip and I can't my leg up high enough to give him the boot. Tee-Hee-Hee!

I will add your neighbor and Ernie to my prayer list. They is always room for some heavenly intervention in our daily lives

Happy late Saturday evening to y'all

I am thinking of doing a lap quilt for our local Veteran's group to use in their fund raising efforts. Talking with them in the past, strange as it seems, they have mentioned they noticed that quilts that aren't just red/white/blue often attract more bids at the silent auctions. I don't know if people think it won't match their decor but dang, who wouldn't want a red/white/blue lap quilt??

Any way, I am thinking of sending 2 fabric choices - a blue marbled and an orange marbled for the blocks asking for whites to be used. These are our local HS school colors and this area is MAJORLY into HS sports so if you can't beat'em join'em.

My question is ... since this is for a Veteran's group, could I request a "star" type block? This would tie the 2 desires into 1 lap quilt. Would this be too big of an "ask" in the swap? I'd put a note of request on the label if it's allowed.

Possum Trot is in western Kentucky and spring is in the air (well it was until the last couple days). Thinking it would be nice out, I thawed a turkey breast and 2 pork tenderloins for my hubby to smoke today.
Turkey breast cut in half ...
1 half Cajun seasoning & 1 half blackened seasoning
1 pork tenderloin whiskey maple bbq seasoning then wrapped in bacon
1 pork tenderloin garlic parmesan seasoning
"Tasting" menu today then wrap some for freezer. Our smoker has to be tended every hour, manually putting the chips in, applewood chips today. Charles does a fantastic job of keeping it going and tending the smoker, even in this chilly weather.
Oh my goodness, we gorged ourselves on this feast of meats ... and some mashed taters and corn. Now I won't have to cook for a few days and will have plenty to stick in the freezer too.

Have a super rest of weekend to all.

Cheesehead we will miss you. Take time to rest after the surgeries and you will be amazed on how fast your eyes will heal.

Lots of fun fabrics, welcome back Duckling.

Moon your smoked dinner sounds good, does your dh make his own bq sauce? This might sound strange but it is delicious, one of my favorite dinners is smoked meatloaf.

We had less than an inch of rain last night and the night before and we needed it desperately but boy is it humid out now. South Texas is in a draught and the dust blows so much it looks like you are driving into a fog in areas that have any construction and or the open area’s.

Starting to pack up my sewing room, thinking of not bringing my main sewing machine with next winter and just using my traveling one that is here. It’s not heavy duty but sews a nice 1/4”, which is all I really need here. I will have 6 months to make up my mind.

Star Blocks are fun to make, And there are so many options.

The smoked turkey brings back memories. My father used to smoke the Turkey for Thanksgiving every year. It was so good. I miss that.

Our weather will be wet for the next 5 days. The temps are up and down this time of the year, so it will be cold and rainy.

We actually use dry rubs on most of the smoked meats he does so it's a little less hassle for him. Now that we are retired (and hopefully no more surgeries in sight) he hopes to use our smoker a little more often. We've never tried doing meatloaf or some of the other things people smoke around here. We just can't wrap our heads around some of them ... like bologna ... oewww. We're wimpy and use the store bought sauces so there can be a large variety to choose from.

The Cajun seasoning was a little heavy handed and aggressively SPICY. The blacken seasoning worked great for the turkey and gave a mild smoke all the way through it. Hubby liked the bacon wrapped tenderloin best but I thought the garlic one was better.

In western Kentucky we are needing rain so bad ... way behind already what we should have had for this time of the year. When (If) the spring rains come it will be great as long as the dry ground doesn't just cause run off instead of soaking in.

Duckling, make sure to check your emails for a reply from me yesterday. All you have to do is reply to post number one of this thread. Do that and you should be set. Post #1.

Moonwork, thank you for asking about your blocks and requesting a block style. Normally, we just request colors but in recent swaps we've been more lenient with requesting themes. It's just another step to requesting stars and I'll turn my head when you do it so I don't see it as its for our veterans. LOL. Seriously, if you request stars, please remember that block choice is the maker's choice but I'll bet stars will be in there somewhere.

Early in the swap and I'm mixing up fabrics already. Fixed my earlier post.

Lstew, Your fabrics are lovely and the dandelions and dragonflies are darling. I look forward to working with them. (Dragonflies are our friends in the summer. DH and I float around the pool and put our hands up. Sooner or later dragonflies will land on the tips of our fingers. It's our super power! LOL)

Because Boom ladies always make the best Christmas blocks to help me with my Christmas quilt. My family has come to expect a Christmas Quilt giveaway at our Christmas get together.
