I usually make large twin/small queen sized projects for donations and "pieces big enough for backs" has always been an issue. I have fun piecing backs but not everybody appreciates. Most of my stash at this point are pieces 3 yards or less, I do still have a few larger pieces but not many.
All of my tops waiting to be quilted down have their backs, bindings, and typically an idea of how to quilt -- and that's the really hard part for me. I did buy a number (8??) large scale extra wide backs and will use them for color suggestions for the top. However we are inspired, I will take it!
So I know I have at least one good one for a civil war type project. Another for a black/multi-color, another white/multi that I think I know the top I want (a sampler with bright batiks on white that I haven't made yet)... I should go look and see if anything perks me up and begs to be used.

It is the end of the month and I did my best to deplete my stash, mostly by giving away fabric from free tables at two different groups and finishing 3 quilts. Drum roll please.........45.2 yards OUT the door and only 5 yards IN. The 5 yards IN were for a baby quilt, a piece to finish my AQS Guild Challenge quilt and a little piece for a border for a UFO and a backing from a free table.. So most of those 5 yards will be in and out all in the month of April. I have plenty of fabric but I have to say that the yardage OUT doesn't even show in my storage area. How can that be?
On to next month with a plan to make the baby quilt and to finish two UFOs and maybe work on a third. I am not expecting to hit the big numbers again in April but I will try. Motto for this year: If I don't like it, don't want to sew with it, give it away to someone who will love it.

Since my splurge at the beginning of this year I have not brought any more fabric into my fabric stash. Yea me!! But on the other hand no fabric has left my stash either <sigh> I do have projects being worked on but nothing completed or even ready to be sent to my quilter.

Hang in there SYNC, you will finish something to be counted for "fabric out" soon.
I have added 1 yard to my "IN" numbers. I needed more fabric to make a bias binding for my Museum quilt. But I finished the quilt so about a half yard out. Let's see if I can use the rest up on another quilt that is in progress. Or a quilt that will pop up soon!

I have successfully resisted the temptation to buy duck fabric. I wasted to add a little something to t h e quilt back for my friend who raises lavender muscovy ducks. I almost bought some muscovy fabric on Spoonflower, but then I found a quilt pattern quth a duck block and only a couple triangles. I figured it would be good practice so I sized it up again and played. I got 3 passable duck blocks and learned a lot about block measurements and scaling. I'm just going to incluede 3 off center in an area with less seams. Im going to fix them up to all be the same width, but I think them being not white in a row will work out well. . . because ducks

Our coordinator for Project Linus said the hospitals are in desperate need for baby quilts. I'm thrilled. I should be able to use up lots of fab. Maybe my Mount Scrapmore will get smaller and easier to climb...yeah right!!!

It's April and I have not bought any fabric this year. But, what I really came here to share is that ages ago I bought a bolt of wideback Fireside and just tried to back a small quilt only to discover there is barely anything left on the bolt cardboard. I thought there would easily be enough but no, so now I will make a string quilt that is smaller than 48x58 so I can use the last of the bolt. It's been a great backing to have, but some days it seemed I'd never see the end of it. So, my exciting moment can only be shared here, where kindred spirits abide.

oh, just look how that fabric is being used.... duck, duck, duck with no need to purchase more. Charming!
b.zang, I used to buy JoAnn's best muslin in both white and unbleached by the bolt for backing.
If a quilter knows what they love to use, purchasing by the bolt sure saves $$$ and help keep one away from random shopping.
Goodness, if PL is in need of baby quilts in one area, I am wondering if that is true of others. Perhaps a call to the closest PL coordinator in your area would set you/me/us on a journey to clear out our stash a bit and help some new little ones and their mom have a lovely gift from you.
