However, because that too can be covered, I also have a very small "signature" that I place on my quilts right on the front - very nearly in the same place on each one wherever I can place it where it will never be noticed unless one is looking for it.

Our creations indeed are works of art and all artists sign their work, some quite obviously. Advantage: It won't be covered on the front.
I make Art Quilts, so signing on the front makes sense. Good idea!

I sew the label on as I'm sewing on the binding. That way, I only have to turn under and hand stitch two sides. The other two sides are hidden in the seam allowance.

As an added idea, if I have to put a hanging sleeve on the quilt, I also sew it on as I'm sewing on the binding.

Oh, I never thought of making my labels triangular. I really like the look of that.

I have sewn one edge into the binding then hand sewed the rest down but now I do a reverse applique in the back and it is quilted down. With the reverse applique there will be a hole in the back if anyone tries to remove it.

The last quilt I finished was for my 1 yr old grandson; the label when finished was about a 3" x 3" square - I embroidered it on my Bernina with his name, my name, 2010 for the year and a couple of hearts. I did it in brown varigated thread. I always whip stitch my labels on.

I attach mine after quilting. If the quilt is a wall-hanging, I put it upside-down so that when one lifts the corner of the quilt to see it, it is right side up.

i embroidery the fabric, then fold it over double, sew to back side when i sew binding on front, then do the hand stitching down the binding on back, therefore u don't have to do any extra stitching for the label. also, the label leaves a little triangle pocket on the back to put a note in for washing instructions, or to put some little goodies if it's a kid quilt.
