i think its a model 99 (i just bought one for $35 at the swap meet, $40 to recondition it) its a 3/4 size the difference is that it doesn't have the shelf that lays down on the left side. like the other people said get the serial number and you can look it up on line and they will tell you the model, when it was made, the year, where it was made, how many were made etc.

My husband collects Featherweights and it is not a Featherweight. It has been modified from the original so it could be a combo of many things

Actually, the black Featherweights come in a black case, but the white/green Featherweights come in a green/beige case and the tan Featherweights come in a brown/tan box. The designation "Featherweight" is for the model 221 and 222 machines.

When you find the serial number, you can go to this website to find out when the serial number was released for production (note that it isn't the year the machine was manufactured). It will also tell you which factory the machine was manufactured and how many machines of that model were in that run.

This is definitely not a 221 Featherweight. I have one that looks a lot like it with a domed wooden case, and it is a model #97. It looks like a pretty machine, and if it works, $60 would not be a bad price.

I have one that looks like it and the singer repairman said it is a 99 model. Made in the mid 1940's

Hi! That is a Singer model "99". It is a 3/4 size machine. A smaller version of a 66. The FW 221 and 222, and singer models 185, 99, 66 and 101 and 201 can all use the same attachments but not the same bobbins. (I have one of each, plus a 301 and 401.)The 221, 222 (FW) models and the 301 (FW's big sister) are the "lightest" of the vintage Singers. The difference btwn the 221 and the 222 is the 222 has a pull out bed that allows fir free arm sewing (to make it easier to stitch sleeves of clothing and such).
Personally, I would not pay 60.00 for a 99, unless I was able to delete the shipping costs, as you will be adding another $20-30 on for shipping and handling.

So far nobody has this one right yet, but your getting close.......It is a Model 128. :mrgreen:

If you look close enough you can see that it is a VS machine and since it is a 3/4 size machine it makes it either a 28 or a 128. How you can tell those apart is where the bobbin winder is. The 27 and 28's are set low on the machine, and the 127 and 128's are up high like the 66, 15, and so forth.

And it is well worth the money that they want for it!!!!

Oh and about the bobbins.....the 185 has the exact same bobbin assembly (part numbers and all) as the 66 and 99, so they all interchange with each other.

What does "VS" mean?

Is it worth significantly more than $60? Shipping costs are a non-issue, it's located only about 20 minutes from my house.
