You have obviously had misgivings about this purchase from the beginning or you would not have made your original post, but are allowing your desire for the machine to block your instincts. Perhaps, you should just take a moment to relax and evaluate how you really feel about the situation.
Was the machine delivered yesterday? Did you accept it? Of course, if it did arrive yesterday and if you did accept it, this is now a mute point.
I myself, possibly allowed my judgement to be clouded by desire yesterday when I acquired a Viking 6460 on eBay to replace my deceased 6430. It was stated as working, but sluggish, but the good thing is -- I am only out $178.45 (including shipping), the price of which impulse I have decided I can live with. I wish you luck with your purchase and many years of enjoyment.

I have a Juki TL98Q and I love it. It sews like a dream. I never heard about them being made in China, so how do I tell where mine came from? I bought it this past Fall.

update:
well, the machine finally arrived last month, a day or two late but that was a UPS issue. I decided to accept it because after having to actually INSIST on a discount I received one. And I really, really needed to get the quilt done for my friend and couldn't waste any more time. The table was broken (badly packed) but the machine seemed okay, although a couple feet and the knee lift were missing. I decided to try out the machine and noticed that.... there was NO POWER CORD!! At this point I found the whole thing so pathetic I really didn't know whether to laugh or cry. The missing items (minus the table and knee lift, which I told them not to bother to ship it until I decided if I would keep the machine or not) were shipped promptly and the machine did seem to sew pretty well. And most importantly, I was able to quilt the top for my friend, who loved it all too briefly. :(
I had some tiny doubts about the machine -- an occasional clunk, some tension issues -- that were probably nothing and which I wouldn't have given much thought to if the transaction had been a smooth one. But since it was so, so, unbelievably flawed from the very beginning, and I had pretty much no confidence in the company, I did return the machine. They haven't received it yet, but I was told I would receive a full refund, including the return shipping.
So that is the end of the story. I do love the Juki and I will likely break down and buy one made in China. Thanks to everyone who advised me. I very much appreciated your input.

did you send it return receipt requested so they can't claim they never received it? and did you insure it for the full value, not their cost? in case it arrives broken and they claim they had nothing to do with that?

Thanks for the continued concern. They sent me the return shipping label and I dropped it off at UPS (they were originally going to pick it up but I had to leave town) and it was immediately scanned into the system. It was packed exactly how it was when I received it minus the table, which they told me to leave out to save weight since it was broken anyway. I trust that I will receive my full refund. Despite this being an absolute disaster of a transaction, it really was with a reputable company that gets fantastic reviews (eg over 1500 sales of expensive equipment on ebay and 100% positive rating, in addition to other positive ratings), so I do think it was just a bizarre fluke.

I just found this thread and I have to tell you -- they both sound like a coupla used car salesmen! No offense intended for anyone here related to or whatever with a used car salesman. My son is one...I've been in the "back" room and I know what they do to get a sale. There are SO many good machines out there...And I have a policy. I don't buy anything over $100.00 online or over the phone. I want to look the salesman in the face...especially something as special as a sewing machine!
Good luck!

I am thankful that they are working with you and honoring their return policy. I have seen a transaction fall apart before and no matter what you do it seems to get worse. It happens rarely but it still happens.
I hope the next one goes smoothly for you.
