I have been heavily research more natural methods, because I don't want to take all the arthritis meds on the market ~ every day it seems like another drug maker is being sued for this med causing heart attacks, another causing cleft palette...

I have found the capsasin (don't know if I spelled that right) helps, and the herb "turmeric" helps too ~ also cinnamon ~ they are called "warming spices" and help me. I am sure they don't work for everyone, but I keep the turmeric on hand for as-needed, and incorporated cinnamon into the diet.

Believe it or not, pineapple has natural healing for arthritis (and menstrual cramps!) too... long time remedy.

Thanks so much,
The generic Mobic is Meloxicam and it comes in 7.5 and 15 mg just like the brand. I've taken it for years and it's been very effective. However, with my new aches and swelling, my rheumatologist switched me to Diclofenac Sodium 75 mc twice a day. I believe it is the generic Voltaran. As with any anti-inflammatory meds, the pharmacist cautioned me to take it with a good meal, as it can cause stomach problems. Both Mobic and Voltaran habe been around for years, so I feel more comfortable taking either than I would some of the new meds.
Thanks for letting me know about this. Must admit, I feel a bit silly now. I got Mobic and Mobisyl confused. You might know that Mobisyl is a cream in a jar to be rubbed in for aches and pains.

You are absolutely right about the potential for stomach problems with any anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to take these as my stomach can't handle them, even tho I take RX strength Prilosec. That really narrows my choices, as you can imagine. :(

Try taking MSM, I take 1000 mg at morning and at night and have almost no arthritis pain. Check it out.

The parafin baths are wonderful. Our Walgreens used to have them but haven't seen any for a while. Probably Bed, bath and beyond would. Aspercream helps too. Exercising with the rubber balls/hearts that are available helps -- I keep them on the sewing table by my chair and use them at night. Strengthening the muscles will help relieve pressure on the joints (so my dr says!)
Does anyone know where you can buy those big chunks of paraffin that used to be sold with the parafin tubs?
We always just used canning paraffin wax from the canning section at walmart (as it's cheap) and a crock pot to melt it in.

Since a lot of your pain is in that thumb joint, another possibility is bone spurs....which often accompanies arthritis. I had that surgically repaired a year and 1/2 ago and have never looked back!!! (They remove a small bone at the base of your thumb and fill that space with tendon from your forearm...no more bone on bone...no more pain.)

Please talk to your doc about it. He/she is the one that can diagnose you properly. We all want you to get the best possible relief!!!!

You are absolutely right about the potential for stomach problems with any anti-inflammatory. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to take these as my stomach can't handle them, even tho I take RX strength Prilosec. That really narrows my choices, as you can imagine. :(
Prescription strength Nexium does wonders for stomach, far better than Prilosec does. It makes me able to tolerate the medication. I take the generic version of Relafin.

Unfortunately, rx strength Nexium is in a higher tier in our plan therefore too high a cost for us. I do appreciate you letting me know about it, tho.

I had the same problem but got the doctor to write a letter stating I had tried everything else. Unfortunately, I now have NO insurance and am quickly running out of Nexium. I'm afraid to see what it will cost. I'll definitely be shopping price!

I recommend going to a hand specialist. They can tell you if it's osteo, rheumatoid, carpal tunnel, tendonitis or something else and properly treat it.

I had a ganglion cyst removed, it was done in the doctor's sterile room, took about 2 weeks to heal and no more lump or pain. Again this is somthing you need a doctor to diagnose.

I thank God for the doctor I see now, the previous one never listened to what I was saying and blamed all my ailments on age. I think I could have dropped dead in front of him and he would have said it was an age thing (I was in my 40's at that time I hate to think what he said to patients in their 60's or 70's).
