Try alternating the direction of the braids, with and without the setting strips. <wave>

This is a simple template I found but it is easy to do with 2 inch by 4.5 inch peices.

Please don't stop, this is what quilts were originally made to be. Scrappy but functional. Love it and thanks for sharing your hard work with us.
Just saw your audition of sashing, the black really makes it pop. Please don't let it be a UFO.
