Tippy, thank you so much for this tutorial. I will definitely be trying this.
P.S. I've bookmarked the page to find it --- soon! I'm planning on making a baby quilt for a baby boy due the first week of January.
    Thanks again

Love it! I want to make a baby girl quilt with some fussy cut centers. This has really been a huge help! Does anyone have any idea about how much fabric it might take?

Thanks so much for the tutorial, Tippy! The churn dash pattern was a favorite of my mom's. The birds as the center fussy cut are beautiful but the possibilities are endless. I will be looking at large scale prints in a whole new way.

It depends on the size of the blocks you're making.. which, I suppose depends on the size of the design you fussy cut. I'd find the "fussy" fabric first and see what size block it lends itself to to determine that. Mine was perfect for the 4" center square (finished) so a 12" block (finished) was the perfect size. If your design is only good for a 3" finished square you'd shoot for a 9" block.
