I cross stitch as well as quilt. A yard of Belfast linen will cost upwards to $70.00 or more with a fat quarter being $18.00 or more. Yup--a yard of good quilting fabric goes a long way.

OH yes, Its part of my daily life. I either read something, sew something, draw something or just fondle some fabric. In the evening I play in my sketchbooks as can't really see to sew at night, especially if I am using dark fabrics.
I admit I do have a fairly good stash, but will still fill in as needed for projects. I do sometimes over dye older fabrics though.

Thats what you have family & friends, thrift stores for, etc,

I still will buy fabric where ever fabric is in fabric stores, but may have to limit buying. so the others I mentioned will have to do.

This might be a good diet plan - buy fabric, don't buy food! And I may shop WalMart for other cotton shirts that are on sale for $1.00 - found one this year, a pretty red, white and blue check, size XXL. Good deal for the money.

I'm already using up my stash - vowed not to buy more material until it is gone. We could go over to Baltimore styled quilts where we applique small bits of material onto plain backgrounds - that could save a lot.

I've got enough fabric here in my closets to last a lifetime for several folks and I just keep buying more and more. I'm pretty well set if it goes too high. But, what is the old saying.....What goes up.... must come down! And wherever there's a will ....there's a way!
