As a "manic" hobbist".... LOL.. I totally understand...
Being serious... this is just a positive way of acting out a behavior that could be totally dangerous... whatever i do, i do too much!!! i have the "large" collection of fabric, yarn, thread, sewing machines... etc... i did quite smoking... years ago...a day without "sewing, or knitting/crochet" is very sad for me...
I'm from a family that was filled along the way with woman "alcholics"... i never got there... and i'm thinking is was my "hobby" that saved me... for some of us it's the shopping,,, for some the doing... for some the organization.. whatever it is... if you can still put food on the table, pay the rent and bills... just enjoy your happy healthy life!!!!
If you can't do the above... it time for "INTERVENTION"!!!! :)Barbara

I found things and was surprised at myself when I rearranged and organized my sewing room. Then my quilt guild had a shop hop. Had to make more room, but didn't go crazy. Good luck, you aren't alone!

You are soooo funny!! I stopped buying last year and have been determined to empty my stash so I can start over with clean cubby holes, drawers and hiding places. I'm doing pretty well. May be years before I can shop again......soooo much in the stash!!! :-D

Hello Michael, My name is Amy and I am a hoarder too. Any auction sale within 100 miles was fair game if it said fabric or material as they used to call it. I have so many totes and huge tubs that I don't remember all that I have either. I don't buy kits. I did buy one and only kit of a lone star that I was going to do and of course I don't know which tote has it. I really need to get organized, but with broke elbow kind of hard now. dd will be coming from WY this spring HOPE, and help be straighten it all out. I really need to make more quilts but then I have them and can't get them finished as I am unable to do all the sandwiching any more with the bum arm. So join the club and live a healthy happy life if that is all you spend your money on. I have a number of friends who smoke, drink, paly bingo and gamble at casinos and have nothing to show for what they did with their life.

Oh Michael you are too funny, welcome to another hoarder. I also knit so besides collecting fabric I collect wool. Everytime I shop in Costco's I buy another tote to put my wool in, and then.. I hate to tell you how many projects I have going at one time. But I love doing it!

Hello, my name is Phyllis and I too am a fabric hoarder! I told myself last summer that I was going to start using up my stash.....and I did pretty good for awhile.
Then I fell off the wagon and started buying fabric again. I'm still buying fabric. I get emails from my favorite online stores and they always seem to have "just what I need" on sale this week or "Joanns sent a 50% coupon in the circular this week." What can I get with that? It's too good a buy to ignore.
It's such fun when we see all that "eye candy".
We can only keep trying!!!!

Hi, Michael, I'm from the Cedar Rapids area, too. I hope you join the local guild. I'm just wondering if being a fabric hoarder is better than belonging to FFA. I saw a t-shirt at Connie's Quilt Shop in Marion, IA, that said, "Fabric Fondlers Anonymous - Acquisition Chairman." Too funny!

Honey, you have lots of company.I really do thinks it's like some sort of addiction. I have lots and lots of patterns. I have made a resolution to not buy fabric that I was not currently working on a project that needed it, and not to buy a tool that I did not have a plan for with a real purpose and not a someday one. Lordy this is harder than when I quit smoking and that was a bear. I've actually started digging into my stash and are making some scrappy things. It feels good but it is not easy. I have to stay out of the shops all together and I've taken my charge card out of my wallet when I do go, it's just too easy to get more than I went in to purchase if that card is there handy.I like to be in control and I'm just not when I'm in a fabric shop. I don't buy thing I don't have a use for otherwise.
