I swear that I recognize a couple of those fabrics from a quilt that my grandmother did around that time. I will have to check tomorrow--I really want to go into my guest room and wake my DD, DSIL and DGD right now to check, but they would probably not appreciate it :).
No - she doesn't know I'm making it - the joy of being over 200+ miles apart! About 10 yrs ago, my aunt gave me the pieces and a quilt square that her mother had done. They were in the bag. I dumped the bag that had all the diamonds in it and she did see those - She didn't recognize any of the fabrics then - but, she was also only 7 yrs old when her mother died.

Over Christmas I suggested we meet in Columbus for lunch instead of having her down here. Over Thanksgiving - she was at my sister's in South Carolina. So, as long as my aunts and uncles in Indy kept healthy(She'll go over there to help take care of them) - she had no reason to be in the Dayton area!

My aunt that gave me the pieces knows about the quilt and she is having a hard time keeping my secret - she can't lie to my mom and I didn't want her to tell my mom what I was doing.

I'm going to try to get to my aunt's next weekend to show her the finished product. She saw it in Feb in progress - but that is nothing compared to the finished product. Must call her today.

This has been an honor to complete it. And a joy to share it w/ people that appreciate it!

What a treasure. I remember a colorful old quilt when I was a child that had diamonds in it. My sis and I literally wore it out. Great memories, and this one will be, too.

What method did you use to make the stars???? Paper pieced, hand sewn, or machine sewn?
    Your hand quilting is perfect!!!!!!!

Stunning quilt. Wonderful story. How nice to use grandmothers diamonds. Your mother will be over the moon.

I'm amazed that you could put that quilt on your bed for photos, see how perfect it looks there, and then take it off and give it away. Your mom is one lucky woman to have a daughter like you that cares so much and gives so freely. Bless you!

Your quilt is beautiful. I can still see tumbling block which is one of my favorite patterns, plus I love scrappy quilts.
