I have sewn most of my life but only started quilting 3 years ago and I am 76.

I am 64 and just started quilting. My sister gave me a book one year for my birthday called The Quilter's Apprentice. It turns out that it is a series and now I have read 14 of them!! Anyway, the books inspired me to start quilting. I took a quilting class at a sewing shop and made a small attic windows quilt, then put it down for a couple of years. I decided to make a quilt like one my mom made in 1939. Hers is in really bad shape and is an appliquéd quilt. She hand appliquéd but I did it on the machine. It turned out so big that I was not able to quilt it on my sewing machine, so I took it to a quilt shop and the lady stabilized it for me by stitching in the ditch around the squares. I plan to bind it, then hand quilt around the tulips and a pattern in the plain blocks. I am really proud of it, but next time it will be a another small quilt :). I don't think it is ever too late to learn something new. This site will be a great help as will anyone else who quilts. Best wishes as you start!!

I did ... quilting was something I had always wanted to do, so when I retired after 34 years, I started taking quilting lessons at my LQS. I was 62. I still go once a week to class and thoroughly enjoy quilting.

Started quilting at age 69. Have never sewed seriously, made a few things now and then over the years. Always designed what I made and occasionally things equally in fact what they were in my mind. Have training in fine art and have created in bronze or on canvas without much trouble. To me a quilt top is another canvas, just one being created in fabric, not a love of a type of sewing.

I just turned 62 sewed my cloths for school and made my childrens cloths when they were growing up. Stopped sewing for years. Started to mend cloths and hem pants Got bored this winter all the snow and cold weather had me bored Tv and computer was boring, until I found this site. Since the second week of Jan I have made 8 rag quilts and 3 baby quilts. I am working on one for my grand son and have another started and a quilt with my grand childrens names on. I really enjoy quilting when I get off of this site. Glad to know that I am not the only new person to start at an older age. I want to learn it all Thanks have a great day.

I started two and a half years ago and I am now 65. I became an addict very quickly and can't wait to get into my sewing room. I also have an alterations business but would rather be quilting.

I have never pieced a quilt. I have hand quilted two of them. I am beginning to get fabric ready to make a simple one. I'm 76 soon to be 77. I keep telling myself that I can do this.

I'm 57 now and started a few years ago, probably about 3 years now. And, how I wish I had started many many years ago. I have so many people I want to make quilts for and just feel that there is no time. It takes me so long to complete one that with my age I feel I don't have enough time left to do them all.
