I have both the 6" and 12" add a 1/4". I use mostly the 6" one as it is easier to handle. I use mine for paper piecing. Works great.

A bandsaw would work well, but I would support it against a piece of wood, so no slipping getting your fingers too close to a blade! Also, best to cut from the front to the back, so if any sanding needs to be done to smooth the final edge, you won't scratch the marked face.

I use mine all the time to make sure my 1/4 inch seams are really 1/4 inch. Also it's a must for paper piecing. I love mine.

I have a quarter rule, but have only used it once - to measure my quarter inch foot was sewing correctly! bit of a waste of space really - I prefer to use the quarter inch marks on my normal quilting ruler.
