My DH made one about 7 yrs. ago. I did the caning on for the seat. I guess that is what you call it. I was amazed as he built it. I never thought I would say a canoe was beautiful but these homemade ones are. He has a kayak started but hasn't worked on it in quite some time. I think your DH is a little bit bigger. Our only has a middle seat which is okay with me because I don't go in canoes in Florida with the gators.

He'll like doing the Kayak they are much easier, because the inside doesn't have to be Pretty. Ask your honey if he knows Ross Liedy. Thats my BIL, he's big in the strip kayak world. We didn't cane the seats, purchased them already made. That was the only thing he didn't make. The strips he made from cedar boards that he planed and grooved. Would love to see your canoe!

DH would fall over if he heard me call it a boat, I made that mistake once, and was promptly told that its a canoe. My thought is it floats its a boat! LOL

I got to ride in it yesterday. The old plastic canoe is mine now, but thats ok, not sure I would want to be in that one when it hits a big rock! They say they can take a lot of beatings but I dont want to be the one to find out!
