Did a lot of work on this last night though it might not look like it. I made the New York Beauty + Star into one block to improve how it's pieced and incorporated the edge and corner stars into the borders better for piecing too.
I also made the arcs with the background fabric so that the points stand out instead of being a solid arc. I like it both ways so not sure about that yet.

Pam, I think its wonderful! I play with EQ7 some..obviously not as much as you. Did you use the custom layout for this or another layout? I'm curious too about how you incorporated part into the border to make piecing easier.

Pat, I used a custom layout, just started with a blank slate. Very convenient to use the toolbar and set the size of a block by inches instead of trying to Shift+drag to the exact size I wanted.
I finally figured out that I had to remove the stars from Layer 1 and put them on Layer 2 to make it look right. Because I had to enlarge the quilt overall by adding borders (otherwise it really messed up the design by enlarging the center), the borders were all screwed up and it looked like the only way to get the stars in was to applique them onto the border.
I tried to get the size of the corner stars to match the border width after messing with it over and over, finally gave up and stuck in extra strips just on the design to make the borders 10". Since I just wanted blank strips I created and saved a blank block and did a Shift+drag to make the strips. I would actually do them in one piece though.
Don't know if that makes sense but if you've done a custom layout, you probably know what I mean.

Yes...I see what you mean. I've had some issues when working on borders and trying to use the "blocks"...had to go to "tiles" to make it work out right. I hadn't thought about just adding something in on Layer 2 though...good idea!

To create the blocks around the center I took a New York Beauty and removed all but the outer ring. Then edited a star to split the points into two two pieces. Copied just a corner section and pasted it onto the NYB, then dragged it to size.
To print the foundation I grouped the two sections seperately.
