Just bought a Janome 6600 that comes with a knee lift. Since we're remodeling my sewing area with cabinets, etc. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. It's been interesting reading all your opinions and comments.

Have one, don't use it. I sew at my dining room table and it just isn't in the right position. It is still in its original packaging:-)

I learned to sew on my mother's Brother sewing machine and it had a knee lift lever. then I got married I had a machine that did not have one so I learned to use the floor pedal. I imagine I could get used to using a knee lift lever again if I ever buy another machine.

I have never tried mine. Not sure why I haven't but it seems like it would be awkward. Will have to give it a whirl.

OK, color me stupid. I thought I knew what a knee lift was (the stick thing that hangs down on the right of the machine that's pressed to start and stop the machine, the purpose being the same as the foot pedal I've used forever), now I'm not so sure.
Knee lift to lift the pressure foot (where is it and why doessn't it get confused with the foot pedal???)
I'm completely lost and can't find a pic or youtube to explain it.

Here's my machine. The circle encloses the foot pedal that runs the machine. The arrow is pointing to the knee control with which I can raise the presser foot with the needle down.

Wow Carol, now I REALLY feel stupid, I've had a knee lift in an old sewing box for years and didn't know what it was. I don't even know what machine it came with LOL.
At my age (72), I think I'll just leave it there:>)
thanks for the pic.

You should try using the knee lift--it's really useful!
