You bet you can. I did put iron-on Pellon in the bottom middle section - attached it to the wrong side of the outside fabric to give me a pattern for the quilting rectangle . Gave it a sturdy bottom.

Here are 3 of mine. I've already given a couple away.
Yosemitesa & Judy you both have done some great ones. 2 of my DGDs were asking for some this weekend so the Valentines would be a hit. That will be next.
we travel a lot so Judy, your idea is a must for me.
Judy, what were the measurements you used?

Did you tack down the little four corner pieces on the inside? I've made some of these boxes around Christmas but I didn't like how the folded inside corner fabrics just sort of stick out. What did you do to keep them nice and flat along the inside?

Some have sewed them down and some glue the folded corners down flat.

First let me say love your boxes and thank you for asking about mine. I use 11" x 9" rectangles. I then used a piece 6" x 8" of fusible
Pellon pressed to wrong side of outside fabric stitch around all edges of
Pellon for a bottom shape to follow this makes sides approx 1-1/2"
high. Then stitched as directions show. Then use the guide stitches to
Make the bottom rectangle and then I just quilted the bottom and out
To each corner. Added the triangle Velcro pieces on inside corners.
Finished. I have made 4 so far. Fast and easy
