There is nothing ugly about your quilt. I would use the white between the blocks and maybe put a blue and a yellow border. I think it will look lovely when you finish.

I like the white better, but either will work.

Oh- you sound like me! I laughed when you said you wanted it to look like the ones your grandmother made- how much experience did she have when she made them? Give her some credit for having learned something through her life, so therefore you have to be starting in a different place!

And the place you are starting is a good place. I have to say, when I read your title I thought I was going to be looking at something far far far FAR more of a challenge than this! I love blue and yellow and I think you have done well - try out those darks you mentioned and see how it looks- playing with it is part of the process.

And, of course, don't forget to show it to us when it is done.....

And tell your husband hi from my husband- the brotherhood of quilting widowers........

I just love blues & yellows. It's very cute & a far cry from ugly!
Both sashings are pretty.

First of all it is not ugly. Second, Sharon Craig came and spoke at our guild, twice in fact. her theory is, use for sashing, whatever color you want the quilt to be. So, if you are interested in blue, use blue, if you like the lighter softer look, go with the white. i didn't look, but do you have any other colors in your fabrics, like maybe green? Lay the blocks on green, and see what happens.

Either the blue or white will work well. It is a beautiful quilt. Be proud of it.

Ditto. Plus I think the blue sashing makes the yellow 'pop'.
