You could get a used Bernina 440 QE for that (I did!), or choose from one if the following similar machines beloved by quilters: Janome 6600, Elna 7300 Quilting Queen, Babylock Quest Plus (now $999 since its upgrade, the Serenade, is coming soon), or Pfaff Smarter C1100 Pro. You might even be able to get the Janome Horizon for $2000-2500 at a show or special price. None of those do embroidery except the 440, with an optional module. I've also heard good things about the Brother NX 2000 Laura Ashley which I think is similar to the Babylock Symphony. Happy hunting, be picky about the dealer and HAGGLE HARD.

I love my Baby Lock "Ellisomo", have had a lot of fun with it so far, but it isn't $2,000 either. The price is almost like buying a car.
I plan on using it a lot, have other Baby Lock machines also, for other uses.
Have had everything over the years from Whites, Singer's, Elna, brothers, but for me I need something that threads the needles anymore. Most of the newer machines will do that, this is one thing that will sell a machine to us older people WHO can't see to thread that needle.

My Bernina 440QE is now selling for more than I paid six years ago. I mean 'used' ones. I thought that I should have haggled but the moderater on another quilting site paid more than I did so I think it was a good price. Just as important was the shop and the free lessons and the free help when ever I need help.
Be prepared for $2000-$2500 for a good machine. I also love my Janome.
